No you don't Barbara...and you don't even know what they're going to be when you buy them as something specific! I bought and planted pink wallflowers along with all my pink tulips and they have come out brick red - I'm busy cutting off flower buds every few days!

That's so annoying Jasmine, I sowed seeds last year to get mine, I've got lots of different colours, I'll take a couple more tomorrow.

Good pics there Barbara, the rich coloured Wallflowers are fantastic but I do like the pale pink bi coloured one there too. Of all the ones I've sown, I've got a 1 lovely peachy coloured one just coming into flower. Looking forward to seeing more of your pics. I agree Jasmine, I have 2 big blowsy yellow Tulips in among my pink and purple ones.

Have you left them Ladygardener? I had a couple of reds come up in my purple tulips, am thinking I'll pick them but then again I quite like that it's happened! You can plan all you like but nature will have the last laugh!

They're smashing Barbara. Thanks for posting. Will you not cut them down later and let them come back next year? I did that with mine in the communal area at the plot and they've been outstanding this year. I sowed others for maybe this year and certainly next year and some of them are just starting to flower now whilst the others have been blooming since February. I'll tie some string around them Jasmine and take them out of the container with the others so the same thing won't happen next year. That's if I can, sometimes the stem breaks off and you're left with a bulb which can get mixed up. I'll let all the leaves die down first.

I just pull them out Ladygardener , and plant dahlia and lily till it's time to plant the next lot out. That's my favourite too Jasmine, there was only one that colour though.

The ones I'm talking about are in a container Barbara and I'll be emptying them out when the leaves have withered and drying them then planting them again next year.

They can be hit and miss Barbara but I have had good results with them. Sometimes I just let the leaves wither then dig them into a space if I can find it and they've had good results too. All my Tulips at the plot once lived in pots and they've been smashing this year. I do give them a couple of feeds as well.

Tulips The rhodies are starting to come out Exochorda Geum Cooky - from Ladygardener! And this is not blooming but it made me smile - this is Tom's car and as is often the case OH is in disguise - either that or he is going to work for easyJet!

It certainly stands out Jasmine. And, you did say OH is retiring, perhaps he's looking for a part time job. Lovely photos. Peeking out in the border.

maggy, this is the pic of my plot that Jasmine was talking about, you can see how steep it is. I've deliberately made it colourful in springtime and it's not always so untidy.

Is the whole site steep like that Ladygardener? Your plot isn't untidy and I love all the spring bulbs!

My plot would be on the top tier Jasmine and the steepest, even the ones over from me are less so. The men have all brought in more topsoil and sand and built their plots up so they're quite level. To get down to where the plum man and the polytunnel is, would be very steep too. Great for a taboggon in the snow.

Sounds like fun Ladygardener! You have done wonders with your plot! I bought a packet of tulips from Morrisons back in autumn called Spring Fever and I have been looking at a pot of tulips in the garden for a while wondering what they are. I found the label for Spring Fever yesterday when I was having a tidy up - it show green flamed tulips in shaeds of pink. This is what has come out! Who wanted a colour scheme anyway!

Thanks Jasmine, it has come a long way and in no way a traditional allotment plot but I'm happy with it. Because of what I'm growing, it's a bit labour intensive than it could be. Now if I was'nt also doing 3 boxes and the communal bank it would be a doddle . It's surprising how often we get these different coloured plants Jasmine but that peachy/green coloured Tulip is smashing.

They are pretty Ladygardener ! Love the ripples of colour in this tulip, Attila Graffiti... Not impressed with SR's Venetian Collection this year - you should get equal numbers of tall Havran, middle sized National Velvet and shorter Prinses Irene. Well, somehow my collection has no National Velvet so it all looks a bit dark, intense and out of kilter height wise! SR knows!!!

Looking at the tulips Ladygardener, the collections have been hit and miss, there is another one that is supposed to be zingy parrot tulips etc and it has one very 'boring' wishy washy pale pink tulip poking up in it! What's worked better is buying single sets of tulips and combining them myself - they are all coming out fine! Might try Bloms Bulbs next year and see if theirs do better.

Jasmine was it you who went to Pashley Manor and took some lovely pics a few years back or was it Jilly? I was reading an article in an old gardening magazine last week and they did a feature on it and it made me think of you two. Yes, in SR's pics everything blooms beautifully and at the right time but it's often not like that at all. I was very pleased with my Christmas Pearl and Showcase Tulips that I bought separately this year, they both bloomed together for me and I was delighted at how they looked.
