My kids compete for the endcrusts (the heel they call it) ....makes the best bit of toast ever! Certainly does - great with beans on! You took the word right out of my mouth drbill. It don't go soggy like the middle slices do

I don't like the ends, I leave them in the bag until the rest of the bread is gone to help it stay fresh, then palm it off on OH.
Boyf doesn't like garlic or peppers but will eat them if they're in something. He won't eat garlic bread though and doesn't like things like carbonara or food that's spicy.
I don't particularly enjoy veg such as broccoli, cauliflower, carrots etc and I don't like the texture of mushrooms. I can't eat bananas or baked beans for too long either cos the texture when chewing makes me heave.
Don't know how I'll get on making my kids (when I have some) eat their veg if I don't... lol

Well sunday lunch for me is meat, potatoes, sometimes sweetcorn, gravy and mint sauce (whatever the meat is!), yorkshire puds if we have beef. It might sound boring but I really enjoy it. Boyf also has broccoli and carrots.
When I cook curries etc I put onions, peppers and tomatoes in there and we both eat it all.
I really enjoy cooking and like to experiment. I'll eat the veg if it's IN something such as a bake or a stir fry (Love beansprouts). I experiment on boyf with the food. Once cooked this beef coconut lime thing and mine was really tasty but he didn't enjoy his. His tasted different to mine and I don't know why lol Never cooked it again mind.

Mmmm yum I've just eaten something I haven't had in years......Halslet (sp). Had it in a sadnwich with a thin smear of Mango chutney. Delish taste sensation, spicy and sweet ;D
On the subject of food...... Pork Pies....glad you enjoyed yours the other day Captain. We have one every Saturday and have a slice with our lunch.
On the local radio this morning I heard mention of a Pork Pie seat being place in the town. I'll be a real sado and take my camera into town next time I go, goodness knows what it looks like ;D

Hehehe! Glad you like the fish pie idea Chuckles. I'm not the greatest fan of mashed potato so thought it would make a nice alternative. I haven't tried it yet though

EW EW EW EW PTAH EW I REALLY didn't like the monkfish....despite spending ages preparing it and having a yummy salad and taters as well. OH quite liked it...but he was brung up proper like and eats everything he's given! We loved the fresh tuna we had, but what I really want to try is grooper.....OH used to go spear fishing in the Persian Gulf when he was working in Saudi Arabia years ago, and said that grooper was by far the nicest fish he'd ever tasted. (apart from my tuna o'course ;D) OH also said that if I didn't like monkfish I prolly wouldn't like swordfish either...... so we're going to try something else instead......

I've never eaten Monk fish,Swordfish or Tuna Don't like Prawns,Crab or Lobster either - have tried them all A couple of years ago when we went to Cornwall OH and BIL booked a morning Sea Fishing! We went ( Sister and Me) and sat on the cliff top and watched the little boat sail out of Padstow and out to sea - we knew they would be about 4 hours. When we saw them returning we went back to the bungalow and put a note on the door ' no fish today Thankyou' Then OH and BIL came home with a bl**dy huge skate / ray They expected it for their tea - as BIL has selected memory about what he can and can't eat re pan-fried food he insisted there was no way he could eat the fish done a la Delia ( pan-fried with brown butter sauce) So we wrapped it in foil with lemon slices and a tiny bit of olive oil It was bl**dy disgusting YUK! YUK! YUK! The next year they caught Pollock - not too bad Last year the weather was awful and they couldn't go fishing! Oh What a shame (YES!YES!YES!)

EW EW EW EW PTAH EW I REALLY didn't like the monkfish.... Can't see on the thread how you cooked it, and accept there's not much chance of trying to get you to have another 'go' - it's a bit like disguising monkfish which isn't much of a sales pitch - but in case it's of interest, I put chunks of monkfish on a kebab skewer, separated by pieces of smoked bacon, bay leaves and one or two 'leaves' of onion (all cut to present the same 'chunkiness' on the skewer) grill it and serve with a tomato and basil sauce... Have a feeling I'm about to get the Little Britain WI treatment, can I just reach for an umberella... OM.

Ah-ha! For all us gourmands (or something of that ilk!) look what I've found! LOTS of good stuff in here! And now that I've found it, me being on a diet and all, I'm going to have to ignore it! Although, I shall feel duty bound to come and lurk ;D
Am thinking.......what would be good recipes for this time of year?
Hmm, BREAD obviously! ;D Wonder if April could start us off?

I just made pepperonata. Basically Peppers, onions, tomatoes, herbs and garlic. Very tasty. Sort of an italian theme.
I was thinking of pureeing the rest and making soup with it. Yum yum.
So I've had 6 portions of fruit/veg today.

Doesn't need to have garlic I suppose. I added some italian herb seasoning which would make it tasty.

'Foody' posts transferred from Anyone Want a Chat?... It was me who made some bread. Didn't I mention it? ;D I'm eating the rest of it now with a tub of butter ;D I'm going to be so fat by the end of the week... shortbread, mars bar krispies, peppermint cremes.... It was me who made some bread. Didn't I mention it? ;D I'm eating the rest of it now with a tub of butter ;D I'm going to be so fat by the end of the week... shortbread, mars bar krispies, peppermint cremes.... That's a most unusual sandwich filling April ;D Well OK, I admit that a tub of butter would be quite a bit sickly as a sandwich filler... However, I won't use it all! My brother used to like a buttered roll filled with a Fry's cream bar. Erm............could you be pregnant April? ;D Mmmm I just love warm buttered bread - but it's soooooo naughty! My mum always used to make bread and cakes, and every afternoon when we got home from school the house smelled delicious My brother used to like a buttered roll filled with a Fry's cream bar. Erm............could you be pregnant April? ;D Unless it was the second coming of our lord Jesus Christ.... No ;D Then again.... he was fond of bread wasn't he?! Hmmmmmmmmm Oh and your brother is weird ;D What a waste of a perfectly good sandwich and fry bar. Oooh yes that's true I remember that - Baking Day - the table FULL TO Bursting of scones, puds, oatcakes, fairy cakes My Mum was a super Baker of goodies My gran used to make perfect scones and flapjacks. She used to make special ones for me without any sultanas in <bleurgh> I've never been able to get them as good and she's not around to ask anymore. That's the thing with being this age in my family. By the time I've gotten interested in something that a family member has done, they've either snuffed it or are suffering from memory loss so couldn't tell me anyway. I'm pretty good at baking generally, but I make the best chocolate brownies in the whole world - moist in the middle and slightly crusty on the outside - mmmmmm ;D I've never put sultanas in flapjacks though Aw hun! Ask on here for some good recipies - there's lots of good cooks and I'm sure they'd love to share their baking recipies and tips. I've got the easiest recipe for Cherry Almond cake if you like that sort of thing April you crack me up everytime ! My Nan used to make me a special chocolate cake with no egg in as I am allergic. It was just for me, everyone else got an ordinary sponge that they had to share. I'm Special ;D made me feel wonderful when I was a little girl. Oh no! Just when I've decided I cant go through another summer carrying all this weight, you all start talking food My mouth is watering ;D Please, take pity on me and stop! I burned some calories off at IKEA anyway, and shed lots of pounds too!!! OH has got his office sorted and we got some shelving for the utility room, and I got a few bits and bobs to pretty up the old homestead. We were there for four and a half hours Much easier though than I remember. Lots of room to pull your car up and load stuff into it. Only downside (back to food again!) was that the restaurant was in the middle of the main shopping area. So there were lots of little doorways into it. Anyway I was good - honest! ;D My Nan was a demon cook. When she took over a pub kitchen in Torquay, people used to travel for miles for her real cooking. She taught me loads. When I met my OH I told him I didn't do cooking. His then wife (spit spit) was supposed to be an excellent cook (she wasn't by a mile). He later (quite a few months I might add) found out that there is a world of difference between not doing cooking and not knowing how to cook. A stomach may be a way to a heart but it's much more satisfying to have other attributes to earn it. ;D It's such a shame that a lot of the basic skills are now lost because of the way we are brought up and taught now. I'm pretty good at baking generally, but I make the best chocolate brownies in the whole world - moist in the middle and slightly crusty on the outside - mmmmmm ;D You're my new favourite person P ;D My gran put sultanas in flap jacks, said they were too dry otherwise? I liked them without anyway so they couldn't have been that bad. And I didn't just mean with regards to recipes and that. I meant with regards to their history and knowing more about them. Used to quite like listening to my gran telling me stories about when she was growing up in the welsh valleys and her brothers and sisters. She was the 7th child of 10 born on the 7th of the 7th. 7 was her lucky number too, always won at raffles and stuff with it. I know I've hardly mentioned it ( ;D ) but I was really impressed with myself for making that loaf because I really didn't think it would work and it came out so amazing and I'm well chuffed. It looks like a proper shop one but nicer because it's more moist and doughy if that makes sense? I'm going to make some more shortbread tomorrow I think. Depends how tired I am when I get home from work. Oh no! Just when I've decided I cant go through another summer carrying all this weight, you all start talking food My mouth is watering ;D Please, take pity on me and stop! I burned some calories off at IKEA anyway, and shed lots of pounds too!!! Only downside (back to food again!) was that the restaurant was in the middle of the main shopping area. So there were lots of little doorways into it. Anyway I was good - honest! ;D I'm determined to lose some weight this year. I'm getting my 5 a day now though so I'm sort of on my way there. I just need to get the hang of eating the 5 a day INSTEAD of the other food... ;D Sultanas make flapjacks moist? Not the way I do them - you just cook them for slightly less time than the recipe suggests then they are nice a gungey! ;D I knew you meant it was other stuff as well Aprilaydee, but not being in a situation like yours I find it difficult to understand completely and offer little helps if I can. LP will be round for shortbread if she'd have half a chance! ;D It's like I'd be interested to know more about my grandad and his family but he died when I was 10 so didn't really get to ask. I'm learning more looking at the family tree but I'd still like to ask him questions. It fascinates me learning about my family history. Shall we swap then? You send over some choc brownies with LP and I'll send her back with some shortbread? lol Oh April, Famous-for-her-bread April, would you mind posting your bread recipe on the 'Anyone want a food chat' thread? OH loves fresh baked bread and I want to give it a go whilst I've got some time on my hands. It's like I'd be interested to know more about my grandad and his family but he died when I was 10 so didn't really get to ask. I'm learning more looking at the family tree but I'd still like to ask him questions. It fascinates me learning about my family history. Shall we swap then? You send over some choc brownies with LP and I'll send her back with some shortbread? lol Its more difficult tracking down friends of relatives isn't it? That might help you a bit though April. And how about I send you LP, she can have some shortbread, and I'll keep the brownies!!! ;D ;D ;D I used to love having baking days, but gave up on them, because gradually everyone was on a diet. Now I only bake if someone is coming over. I have a great gingerbread recipe April. I was going to make some gingerbread but I want to use fresh ginger and I haven't got any yet. Any recipes welcome though ;D Preferably in a format I can download or just link to because I don't have a printer. I made some Gingerbread a week ago April I can send you the recipe It was really easy to make - def not as hard as bread making ;D I got it from my Mum's Tricity cook book ooooooooooooooh <dribbles>
