The amaryllis I had as a gift at Christmas is almost in full flow now - I've forgot what the name of it was, the petals are like velvet and it is quite a vibrant colour! x Tig

Will you hold on to the bulb and try to bring it back next year again? The Charisma which I planted the same time as the Naughty Girl has sent up 2 flowers i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/cheesy.gif . It's interesting because they were both planted into the same mp compost at the same time and the NG is almost finished flowering and Charisma is just starting. They grew differently too, NG having put out leaves first and Charisma is putting out the flower first.

Thank you all very much for the noms, and yes LG I will try and save it for next year, though I don't always succeed in getting them to flower again at the right time The entire head of flowers is over 1' wide - you can't miss it when you walk into the dining room, would be lovely if they had a scent too x Tig

My 2nd Amaryllis now has it's blooms opening. This one has grown completly differently from Naughty Girl with the 2 flower spikes growing first and no sign of any leaves. This one is called Charisma, I'll get a pic soon, it's too dark today without using light bulbs so I'll leave it until the weather gets brighter. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/smiley.gif Both my bulbs were planted by the girls last autumn and I thought this one was'nt going to grow at all as it got damaged.

No TT I bought the bulbs by themselves for the girls to plant. It was my fault it got damaged but I'm happy enough anyhow. It means I've got blooms from just after Christmas right into March which is pretty good going. I don't normally go for house plants as my house is too dark but they've done well. Your Red one is lovely, they're great plants are'nt they.

It's the first one we've ever grown. My sister bought Mum one a few years ago, it was a monster!! Grew to over 4ft tall... Very pretty though.

Who would have that much money to spend on a bulb these days??? They are all lovely mind, just wish they lasted longer, and weren't prone to becoming top heavy and tipping over x Tig

When we were at City Hall for the Queen's Jubilee Party I bought 2 bulbs at the Continental Market and the man said to plant them straight away. One of them is just opening it's flowers, there are loads yet to come. Not bad for £1.00. It's been growing in a pot in my covered back yard but I brought it outside yesterday.

What a lovely flower...I must admit that when I saw the notification for this thread I wondered who was posting on it at this time of the year and decided that it could only be someone wanting some info..I never thought it would be a pic of one in flower...
Just goes to show how one can change flowering times...lovely idea..Dahlia's in winter on the windowsill perhaps??

I haven't grown amaryllis for years but the pics on this thread got me wanting to try again with something a bit different. I spotted Amaryllis Lima in the Parkers catlogue and this is it... I've not timed it well for Christmas but never mind! ;D

Wow good work Jasmine, I have one like that which did not flower last year but now is showing a bud. Which means it will flower in 2013 so my timing wasn't any good either. ;D But at least it will flower, yeh success. I find these spiky ones fantastic and tempting so maybe I will buy an extra one.
