Well, summer is nearing an end and my bananas have been superb this year. I only have a few musa basjoo left....two in the ground, which were the original massive ones and 3 in pots. This summer has been warm and humid and very still and as a result, the nanas have really looked good. So here's a few pics for you This is one in a tub outside the conservatory door and is probably the nicest of the lot another one on the patio in a tub and here's the ones in the ground down the garden.

Wow Andy, aren't they gorgeous - I can't seem to keep them long enough for them to get really established

Just checked my strelitzia Regina and the roots are well out of the pot!! Should I repot it, or do they like being rootbound ( or in this case strangled?? )

I had to cut mine out of the pot to move it on the first time Auricula. It was a right job as well! The next time I decided to be brutal and I snapped all the bits of roots coming out of the bottom off, yanked it out and moved it into the next size pot. It survived ;D I only transplant it into a slightly larger pot each time, I think I read they do like to be a bit pot bound, and exposed surface roots can encourage flowering (that is what I read anyway ) At the moment mine is pushing itself out of its pot upward, bringing the compost with it!! Looks like a Yorkshire Pudding x Tig

It definitely is a bud! I have read they can take months to open though - could be a bit of a wait for a photo opportunity! x Tig

Can't wait to see the pics Tig.....they are, in my humble opinion, THE most spectacular flowers on this planet.
Some exotic news from chez Andy.....Pink Brugmansia is in full bloom and absolutely loaded with flowers....i'll get some pics but won't be able to put em up yet as my puter is poorly and i'm having to use my daughters lappy.
Also, my night jasmine (cestrum nocturnum) is about to burst into flower with gusto....it's absolutely loaded with flowers and the scent from this is incredible. Again, pics to follow.
The musas in the garden are still looking superb and pommegranite is in full flower. I binned the Ricinus but had a wonderful display from them this summer....definately something for next year. Hedechyum greenii (red) has just finnished flowering but the yellow Hedechyum gardenerianum which is highly scented is just about to flower.

That is a good question RF (ignoring the person who thinks I have 'orange' hair : It is like wax, so I think it will last a fair while. Andy might know from his 'glass-house' experience It's 'ears' are sticking up and now and it is just touching the ceiling. It might have to sit on the floor whilst in flower. x Tig

It is like a magic box, the 'beak' keeps producing more and more flowers (four so far and looks like others yet to come!) The shape of the blue/purple bit is amazing - like a jet plane x Tig
