As promised an update on the queen (aka strelitzia regina ) She is now taking over the dining room and probably needs to find a new home! This year she has two flower spikes on, if you look closely you might spot them Here's one in close-up x Tig

Wow, impressive or what?

It is quite an impressive flower isn't it, extremely waxy!
It looks even more spectacular today as the next set of blue and orange has arrived ... if I can balance precariously on a chair at the right height I might get another photo of it ;D

I wonder if repotting mine in a smaller pot would tempt it to flower....

Do they like to be a bit pot bound then CPB? Tig it looks stunning, it's a wonderful shape, I hope mine gets to be like that 1 day.

I can only share how I've treated mine, and for the most part I am brutal with it. I have hacked off the roots several times to keep it under control (somewhat!) and put a bit of fresh compost in the bottom of the pot and sat it back in. It always gets watered from the bottom, quite often with cold tea. I have not fed it as such although I have used those bug sticks to make sure it doesn't get attacked by fungus gnats and there is some food in them. If you can hire a large truck and trundle up the M6 Cheery you can adopt it! I need a bigger house if it stops here much longer. I have risked life and limb, balancing aloft precariously to bring you these photos, thank goodness that health & safety officers can't get at you in your own home ;D and why they 'drip' - see the fluid it produces x Tig

Nah..it's too sprawly and I don't think it'll ever flower I have had it for about 4 years and it just keeps growing long leaves.OH says it looks untidy It outgrew the study and its spot in the conservatory, but the leaves spread out as well as upwards so it takes up too much "floor space". I can't wait any longer for flowers...........4 years for goodness sake ;D

Anyone remember my ponytail palms that I rescued and Andy helped me ID? Today I've oinked them out the pots and put some new compost in the bottom, this is how they look now ... The weird thing is they all have different colour foliage and slightly different 'habits' straight, curly and very curly Icklest one is brightish green and straight Middle one is red and very curly ... Biggest one has a ruddy hue and is also curly .. Anyone got any ideas if they are different types of beaucarnea or just variations of the same type? x Tig

I don't know anything about them Tig but they look great. Well done. Perhaps Andy will pop in and give some advice.

They look really pretty Tig...I haven't come across them before but now I've seen them..... I've lost so many exotics this year, but now have a new tree fern, and the big old banana at the back of the garden has started back into growth, despite OH being rather aggressive with his pruning last autumn... I've had a go at growing adeniums from seed this year...the seeds all germinated and I have 7 little plants...anybody else grown them? I haven't a clue how to look after them.

Isabella is growing some bat plants if I remember rightly, I fancied trying some from seed, but I may not live for another 50 years Not tried adeniums (never heard of them tbh!), but they sure do create some 'artistic' forms Maybe you will find something useful on here Cheery (or Andy may have a few ideas?) toptropicals.com/html/toptropicals/misc/thailand/adenium.htmx Tig
