I couldn't decide whether to put this in the red or the white flower thread. So I've put this one here, and a different photo on the white thread ;D

Thanbks Rf. I've really been after them; the beetles I mean. It looks like they're up and hungry and "active" (if you get my drift ) early this season. And since they lillies are still on the small side, they're going after the fritillarias like serious business. But I've suspended the Geneva Convention and declared unconditional war on them. ;D

My frits are doing OK. Here is "Imperialis" Lovely TT - keep up the 'war' effort! I planted one of these, but I think it must have rotted in the soil, not even a leaf appeared!

Lovely TT - keep up the 'war' effort! I planted one of these, but I think it must have rotted in the soil, not even a leaf appeared! They seem to be a bit tricky Tig. For one thing, I understand that they're supposed to be planted at a sort of 45 degree angle so that water doesn't settle into the stem notch at the top of the bulb, which causes it to rot. Even so, I've planted the orange and the yellow. Last season I only got the yellow ones blooming; no sign of the orange. This spring it's the orange ones in bloom, and only a couple of small bloom-less plants around which might be the yellows. The year before that I had the yellows come up in one spot and the oranges in another, even though I had planted both colour bulbs in each of the 2 areas. I have no idea what's going on with them.

Here's an old faithful, Paeonia officinalis rubra. I've had it for years and noticed a couple of years ago it was hardly flowering and was being overtaken by Euphorbia (which does look lovely with it). I think I may have rescued it from the brink! Ooh, sorry Tig, I didn't notice yours there! But there's always a little repetition on these threads!
