Thanks, Jilly. I can't get a decent photo of the whole border - it's too big, but there are yellow Inulas and Heleniums in there as well as Chelone, and it's looking quite pretty atm. I can see it from the Garden Room.

Spent ages trying to load this up to photobucket today, loads of technical problems. It was a gift from mum, very striking.

A from me as well - what a beauty and just right to chase away the winter blues - I hate this time of the year - too early to start but everything is beckoning and calling !! RF

Thank you Ladygardener and Rosefriend! It's at the front of a bed too - I always under estimate what 60cm tall will look like!

It's lovely Jasmine, the one we've got growing at Mum's is very tall for a Geum too. I do have Geum envy, seeing as they hate being in the beds here, I think I may try to find a few to grow in pots

I could send you a Geum Mrs Bradshaw to have an experiment with ...or a baby Geum Blazing Sunset which needs to grow on a bit Jilly. I have some Bath's Flame bulbs to send you anyway but they haven't completely died back yet. I wonder if you can split geums.... Claire Austen has some stunners!

Thanks Jasmine, something to experiment with is just what I need . I've had yours & Tig Rubeckias potted up in the porch for a week, all ready to go & they still haven't made it to the office to be packed up & Rosefriend Brazen Hussy has now died right back, so it looks like I will be sending her a pot of soil after all , I'll try harder to get them sent this week, trouble is the packing dept (OH) has been busy

Yes, you can split Geums, quite easily, Autumn is the best time. Blazing Sunset comes true from seed too.

That is a wonderful display of totally tangerine Jasmine! What sort of conditions is it in? I'm still dithering about planting the ones I got as plugs from Haylofts, lots of my 'spaces' are in quite hot places with well drained soil, not ideal I think Although the rudbeckias will probably like those places

It's at the front of a wooden raised bed Tig so well drained soil and the bed is where the old compost heap used to be so I'm guessing the soil below the bed is probably very good! It is in full sunshine from midday to when the sun goes down. The actual base of the plant isn't huge - it's the flowers that are spread out all over!

Thanks for that, I might just dig some home made compost in before I plant them then

These are such a vibrant red and they are dwarf - perhaps should have saved them for RFs Luscious Lilies challenge and putting on a good show over the bottom arch with loads more buds to come it's Pauls Scarlet The brilliant orange/red frilled poppy is showing well against the physocarpus opulifolius Diabolo and fitting quite nicely into a container with french marigolds is the ornithogalum dubium

Great shots there Tig, lovely and bright and vibrant. Love the Pauls Scarlet and the Poppy in front of physocarpus opulifolius Diabolo This combination is a real winner.

Ah, such a beauty with gentle eyes scarecrow. This Potentilla I'm sure is the one that came from Tig a few years back. I love the colour of it.
