I saw them this year in my garden for the first time in any numbers. Boy were they 'chatterers' and 'flitterers'. A joy to behold and they didn't seem bothered by me being around - they were probably too busy talking to notice! ;D

I've just spent a magical few minutes watching a gang of Long-taileds in a tree outside the garden. I love the way they just arrive, en masse, put on a show, and then suddenly they're gone!!

I was about to post this morning that our Long-tailed Tits aren't around and then the phone rang - good job it did...this afternoon I had a lovely 10 minutes watching them. Every time I lifted the camera they were off but came back when I kept still.....they really are gorgeous..

On the bird table today... this 'hoover' looking not quite as guilty as it should - they get loads of wheat and general bread scraps etc down on the grass: Sorry it's a bit blurred, but there was condensation on the window. OM.

We sometimes get the male variety ramsacking our birdtable but actually I have not started feeding yet. The weather is still very mild and there are still some late berries around and other goodies. We do throw the breakfast crumbs out and today they were once more carefully lapped up by next doors cat. That feline wastrel is going through an identity crisis I think.

I had for the first time a collared dove last week before the gales smashed up my feeding station. I will have to buy new feeders very soon as miss all the tooing and frooing of the birds Sara

Just the one Sara? I don't know if they mate for life but you usually see them in pairs.

Don't mention pairing for life in the animal Kingdom Nightowl, it breaks my heart.

Not quite on the bird table but this morning in the garden at work sounded like a spring day....No fewer than 4 song thrushes were belting out their songs snd setting up their terratories for the spring. Add to that a chirpy wren, a blackbird and a couple of robbins and it was a very pleasant day. Also. a colony of around 20 blue tits went flying over....very nice too

What a wonderful start to the morning Andy, I certainly miss the birds singing. I am afraid that I haven't been as lucky as you but a magpie flew over the garden today and left me half a piece of soggy bread as a present.

I feel guilty - because I ran out of food to restock the feeders on our bird table - but I have now remedied that and hopefully the 'visitors' will flock back soon! x Tig

I'm quite jealous of you lot - I think the birds are boycotting our garden! I've got two beautiful pyracanthas covered in berries outside the garden gate, a cotoneaster which as been pecked at. Dead sunflowers waiting for attention, lots of clematis seed-heads, and plenty of other natural treats. AND I've got peanuts and seed hanging on the feeder. I've hardly seen any birds this winter - except the occasional appearance of a robin on the wall, and a wren. Where are they all?

Haven't seen our robin for weeks, our 4/5 blackbirds only visit occasionally, even though they regularly get their chopped up apple thrown in the garden. We're reduced to starlings, sparrows and the occasional magpie, though I did see a great tit on the back fence about a week ago, but it went into next door's garden rather than ours. Maybe there is another neighbour, who puts out a banquet for them. How would it feel to live next to Bill Oddie, with all the food he puts out, they wouldn't slum it elsewhere, would they! Keith

HURRAH!!!! There's birdlife in the garden today!!! ;D There was a little row of sparrows on the gutter this morning, and they were watching two great tits, two wrens and a robin. The robin did visit the feeder but the other birds were more interested in molesting my plants! In the front garden we had MORE sparrows on the feeder by the window - I get an excellent view

You can tell we are in for a colder spell, they are moving into town again. Bet Keith and Plocket will soon be seeing lots of small songbirds on their feeding stations.

Probably the only way when they are being that cheeky SR, and you don't want the rest of it's family to join in the feast. Can't really see how you can put bait up there. Good luck :)

I think it may be the only way. See this cat....brilliant mouser but turns her nose up at rats. The dog's no better. He's a terrier and therefore a ratter but he just can't find it....he can smell it but can't get his teeth into it. Very frustrating!!
