Mine is far more compact and "round" - all of yours are growing in all directions and seem a lot bigger somehow.. I have just taken this pic - put it on the grass. Sorry about the weeds in the pot. It is only 30cms high and very bushy... We have just had a very hard shower but normally the leaves are very light. RF Looking at yours it definately seems more petite, it's certainly flowered well for you from the looks of things. I hope they all survive the winter. I'll bring mine up near the house and throw a bit of horticultural fleece over it if we get a long cold spell. Hopefully that'll be enough.

According to GW mag it's time to prune buddleia. I'm guessing that Budd Buzz needs pruning in the same way as big budds Has anyone pruned theirs yet...are you going to?

Yes it is the time to prune Budd's but I fear that the weather has pruned mine for me - I don't even know if any are still alive...
They flower so much better if they are pruned and the flowers are a lot larger!!

I've been wondering that myself Jasmine. Most of mine are still quite small; I think I might prune the largest one and see how it copes; they might look a bit silly while they are relatively small, with great huge flower heads?

Oh RF - I hope they're ok. I felt the same Amber - they're only small - seems a bit cruel to cut them back even more Though one of mine came from T&M last spring and it grew a lot in one season...and flowered its socks off.

If my Buzz is alive I won't prune it - just nip any old flowers off...there wouldn't be anything left if I pruned it!!

My Bud Buzz which Jasmine sent me got pruned by half last autumn and has stayed green all winter. I was well pleased with it last year and it too flowered it's socks off. I don't think I'll take any more off it this year.

Mine stayed green all winter too LG, think I'll just give it a tiny tidy up, certainly nothing as drastic as what I do to the big one in the border, that was cut back in the Autumn but still needs another chop soon.

It's been such a mild winter here. I think I'll give the pot a new top dressing with a bit of BF&B in it, would that be a good idea?

Went around this morning and did the scratch test on all my Budds....I was dreading it.....and guess what...... ALL MY BUDS ARE ALIVE....even the Buzz in the GH...just hope that I don't get some late frosts now that I have pruned them!! Not one to use smilies at all but this one is a must... RF

WHAT? That is impossible RF. ( do not look at them they might still keel over... ) The Budds at the lottie seem fine but they are not mine and I can not go onto other property to go and have a scratch... They would have me interred in the loonie bin withing secs. The nextdoor one that hangs over has completely brittle branches that break at nothing but lower down there seems to be fresh grey growth. Not that I am looking as I know my deathly stare ;D

I stopped looking at them as soon as I pruned them...
I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that I didn't prune them at all (for wind damage) in the autumn....cut ends, frost etc... I honestly can't understand how they managed to survive...
I just hope a late frost doesn't finish them off!!

Well Jasmine just pointed me to this very interesting thread. I must admit that after reading it through, I am not certain whether to go out and kick my new Buddleia or treat it gently! I have a pink delight, and it says it grows only 6 ft ... I may have to plant it in a different location if it is going to grow into a monster! I was thinking about planting bulbs around the base in the autumn ... So it's nice to see that is something others have considered. The one I bought is still dormant, looks like a dead stick, so the only way to go from here is better. Our soil has clay in it, so I will make sure I mix some sand into it ... And maybe a bit of cement ... ;-)

I would kick it out Bobbie! They are such tough things - mostly - as you will have read they don't like continental northern European winters. I think 6ft is a good estimate for the size of Pink Delight - mine has to put up with a bit of border collie battering as it is by the fence that Bonnie stands guard at but makes 6ft each summer and then gets cut back hard about February.

I just discovered one of our local stores is having a half price sale on these on Saturday! I had considered buying more, but discovered they are becoming an "invasive plant" in parts of the United States, so I will stick to this one no matter how pretty they are. Oregon has actually banned the sale of them just over a year ago because they were crowding out native vegetation and causing so much damage with the seedlings. Thanks for the tip on the size. We have an electrical outlet off of the deck, and I need to be able to access it. While I would love to see it up close with the butterflies, I think it could be a bit too aggressive to be planted there. I am going to plant it in the corner by the fort where my Granddaughter will be playing. That's also a better location for not pampering it!

They grow in every location here Bobbiek, railway embankments, tops of old buildings , the tarmac of carparks, you name it, you'll see one.

I've spoken with several friends here and we may have the boggy soil curse. Without ever seeing this thread or hearing about it, they said, "All I have to do is look at one and it dies!"
So I will be lucky if it grows ...
