Did you manage to get those pallets for your lottie Karen I'm recycling the deeper larger white trays that you get mince in from smkt at the moment, they are brill for keeping your gdn string and ties and snips in for when your going round the garden, and as they are white I don't loose them Also, have I mentioned I use my old sausepans for things like getting compo out the bag and other stuff like gravel etc.

Failed attempt at re-cycling yesterday. There was an old garden bench (the wrought iron kind with wooden slats) in a skip a couple of roads down, there was no way I could carry it home, my partner was in town ... by the time he got back home and we went down to get the bench it was gone . Ah well, hopefully it found a could home ... cheers ...

I've managed to get some pallets out of next door's skip. I now have a large compost bind and a platform for my second water butt - plus a small area to sit on - not that I do that much sitting around on the lottie you understand!!!

I'm taking my old garden bench down to my plot, and I do a lot of sitting/Tea drinking - trying to work out where I am going to squeeze everything in ;D. I've got 3 old black plastic dustbins lined with heavy duty poly bags for water collection and some of my netting I will be using is old fishing nets.

Nice bit of recycling JL and BB what a shame about the pallets JW, lets hope he has some more sometime Recycled ex neighbours Ikea Bamboo Blind and used it as a sun screen in the GH. Fixed it up in the roof with those black GH hooks you get that twist into the frame, then used some more down the roof frame and side frame to hook through the blind and hold help it in place and take some of the weight off the top bit. I leave it down all the time as it lets a nice bit of light in but helps blocks some of the midday sun so works a treat.

When my neighbour moved out his Mum asked me if I wanted them, there were 3, the other 2 are slightly smaller and I snapped her hand off and had all 3 ;D The large one I've used in the GH is brand new and had never been used The other 2 are in my shed waiting for me to have a recycling moment ;D

Used some old logs on a roll garden edgers as posts to support netting over my raised beds. Also used some smaller ones a while back as labels for my Onions and Tats Just snip the wire that holds then together and they make lovely labels.

I recycled some old netting that is normally used by builders to prevent rubble from building work falling onto unsuspecting walkers by. I use it over my cold frame as a sunshade. This way I do not have to paint the panes. I suppose one can use this netting as well against pigeons on the lotty.
Builders often do not bother to reclaim the used material so I got this for free.

After getting caught out a few weeks ago by thinking I was clever enough to remember what seeds I'd sown in each tray Tonight I found the perfect solution when clearing my shed ready for 'demolition'. An old plastic window blind. I cut 4" pieces off a slat ... then cut each piece in half, length-ways. Hundreds if not Thousands of potential plant markers.

I have to admit that I was more than a little sceptical about the idea of using venetian blind slats as plant labels, but yesterday I set to, dismantling the 8ft wide blind that used to be in the kitchen. It has been shoved behind the wheelie-bins for two months pending the next trip to the council dump. Having tried a few samples though I think this certainly is a workable idea, although cutting the slats must be the most boring job in the whole world! So thanks to WB and everyone else who has mentioned it, for the idea!

While I've been clearing out the sheds I've been keeping a keen Chuckles eye on what I could recycle for use in the garden The old Gas BBQ had to go but I spotted a bit of recycling ;D the frame which had drop down wooden slatted sides has made a lovely potting table. I just put some wood over the bit were the BBQ bit was and hey presto ;D Also saved a couple of old plastic paint buckets to keep bits and bobs in, and one that had had tile adhesive in has made an ideal container for having in the GH with compo in.

I've been lucky enough to have loads of stone - saved from works to the house, and what we've dug up as we've been gardening <phew>. Have used it for the hard landscaping around the garden - walls, paths, steps, patio and a pond. Also used old household rubbish bins as compost bins and they're now in the potting shed. What else? Oh yes, plastic trays etc that veg, fruit and meat comes in from the supermarket as 'saucers' to retain water under my plant pots in greenhouse, as trays for sowing. Use the 5 litre tubs (from paint, chicken pellets) as handy buckets to put weeds in and one to carry tools and bits and bobs in as I work my way round the garden. And one that I was really pleased with - an old factory bench table that is about 7' x 2', with two drawers and slatted shelf below. It now resides in my potting shed and is just wonderful ;D I use the tubs that my moisturising cream comes in for storing seeds. They're nice white small tubs that I put sticky labels on and they stack easily too. Old wooden planks to create raised beds for my veg patch (planning another two of these but probably an autumn project now) I hate throwing anything away and only do if I cant think of a use for it. I love recycling Shrub.

;D I just got one of these toy things, do not know what it is called due to marble shortage, a saucer that works like a boomerang. Turn it upside down and it works perfect under a pot.

That would be a frizby dutchy I had these unused fryer baskets in the house, so used them a hanging baskets, small but effective............ I also have an old wicker basket I could use as a planter, could pin the lid up and let it act as frame for a small climber.

That looks very good indeed. Since you have used frying baskets and Chuckles a shopping basket I wonder when the first shopping trolley is going to go green, just think what that can hold ;D p.s. thanks for the Frisby one. My mind seems to be on hold these days

Shopping trolleys go green if they are left in a canal long enough I love how you've used the hamper in particular CB - I've got an old hamper in the loft that I've never really used, so I might just pinch your idea We get our Chinese take away delivered in plastic mushroom crates sometimes, and I grow cut-and-come-again lettuce in them. I line the edges and base with cardboard, and at the end of the season the whole lot can go in the compost bin
