Well our Chinese doesn't use these but I could get them from a local fruit n veg supplier, nice idea there. All our food waste goes into one of those green cones and in turn back into the soil. Any other waste ideas?

I've got that many plastic trays from the supermarket, the ones that you get mushrooms in, chicken, toms etc, you know the sort I mean and they come in varying sizes. They are soooooo useful for when your collecting veg and fruit from the garden, collecting seeds in or even as saucers for pots in the GH, storing all those little bits in in the shed too. Million and one uses ;D

I should point out that we don't always get the plastic trays, but they are very useful when we DO get them. I'm using one as a freezer drawer, because the original broke. Another has LP's small garden toys in - her bubble-blowing stuff etc. And they are very useful for storing stuff in the garage.

I have a couple of freezer baskets, the one's from chest freezers and they are brill for in the garden shed. Nice size and easy to pick up.

That is definitely recycling BB, well done Well ;D yesterday whilst upstairs I heard a heavy vehicle outside so went to the window and saw a skip was being taken away from across the road, new people moved in and had been having a clear out. I could have kicked myself as it was taken away I saw a lovely old wooden garden table and a half wooden barrel Today I heard another skip being delivered so have had eyes peeled just in case ;D ;D

The horseshoe hay racks came from the same house as the skip that had the tabled and barrel in it, just a different skip. I dread to think what else I've missed The problem is I can't sit looking out the front all day, I'll get labelled as being a peeping tom ;D

I see things in skips but dont like to ask for them. Perhaps i will now. As they say one mans rubbish is another mans treasure. i am into freecycling in a big way now and get rid of and obtain all sorts of goodies. CJ

It's good to see everybody re-cycling! One of my favourites is the big plastic meat crates you can get from your local butcher - I got two last year and used them to make a cold frame; now that I have a mini GH I use them as 'drawers' in the bottom to hold tools etc. And the gas thing is, my butcher told me the abbatoirs don't re-use them - they just get thrown out and go into landfill! ... cheers ...

I wasn't sure where to put this ... but as all the materials have been reclaimed from either my garden, the gardens of my neighbours and a local slate quarry's rubbish pile I settled on Re-cycling over D.I.Y in the Garden Where my old shed stood. ( Parts of the shed have been made into a rabbit hutch for new additions Rambo n Gizmo ) Not quite the finished effect. Still got to add the rustic bench for CpC ... and to finish 'new shed' ... and hopefully posting on here will give me the kick up the arse to finish 'the project'

WOW WB you have made good use of stuff, love it. I'd forgot about this thread until I saw a skip delivered across the road from me the other day. Nothing worth recyling though

I have used my old fridge/freezer as a compost bin. It works wonderfully, getting really hot. In fact I have managed to get 3 loads of compost already this year and as it has a separate fridge and freezer compartment I can leave one to decompose whilst filling the other compartment.

I keep all those plastic boxes peaches etc come in, they make great planters for give aways, plenty of depth for compost.

ooh yes, me too. Love 'em. And they have 'soak away' holes too. Does anyone 'nick' the trays that are left out at garden centres? They seem only too glad to get rid of them round here. They're fab for not letting water drain away - absolutely essential in a hot greenhouse. And tidy. I love tidy.

I am really impressed with all your recycling, so I thought I would test your collective brains.
I have an old metal kitchen bin sitting in the garden (one of those brabantia ones). It has an inner metal section and the outer section. Its about 1m tall and rougly 30cm diameter.
So, what can I use it for? Any suggestions?
Jardack (who is too lazy to take it to the tip!)

Hi Jardack. If you put it out on the pavement in the evening, it'll probably be gone by morning

Jardack can't you use it in the shed to store something in or have it outside the back door for putting bits in for the compost bin I really need to find a skip soon I'm getting recyling sickness ;D

Hi jardack, I've used an old bin for storing my compost in the shed for when I'm potting up. Also got one that I store hessian sacks in when not in use. Do you have any plant pots? They could go in there. If you have a greenhouse - you could use it for it's intended purpose and shove all your old compost/failures in there and then cart it to your composting bin when full. And Chuckles saw this and thought of you........ ;D

Jardack - how about using your bin for storing canes? I use an old bin for that and it saves the canes from going everywhere and me losing my temper!!

Thanks Guys A few good ideas there! I might use the outside bit for the canes and the inside bit for pots... or for dumping the food ready to take to the composter (when it arrives ) Jardack
