Yesterday I tackled the Solanum Alba Hitlerus! It fought bravely but I prevailed in the end. Shame really cos it still had plenty of flowers on, but watching it lash about on Sunday made me scared it was gonna rip the fence and trellis apart!!!

Or maybe that is a photo of an Irish gardener! ;D ;D ;D Dutchy, I believe Solanum Glasnevin (the blue/purple one) is reputed to be hardier than Solanum Alba, which may be why you haven't seen the latter in Holland ... although I've seen Solanum Alba growing in some pretty chilly places in the Irish midlands, so you might want to give it a go ;D ... cheers ...

Today? Nowt. It has been bucketing Water butts are full though, and so is the pond ;D Well I've done slightly more than you Wee. For the 3rd day on the trot I've scoured the paths, GH, Poly and edges of the beds in the hope that I'll find the earing that I lost on Tuesday only a cheap one but all the same I liked them. And yes, my water butts are full too ;D at least some good comes from the rain

Been out for a look around and am amazed to see how much growth there is, lots of bulbs coming up and I see new growth on the euphorbia too. A few of the heather cuttings have taken and the viola are blooming. Have come across quite a few nasty bright green caterpillars which I've made short work of.

Killed a conifer and grinned at the rest. You never know they might up themselves after that. Jenny can I borrow that friend of yours? I need to get the weeds out of the paths.

Had a really lovely 3 or 4 hours in the garden today ;D it was quite pleasant as the wind and rain kept away. No sun as such but it was still pleasant. Leaves all sweapt up again, I'm leaving it and doing it once a week now. It does get harder to do this time of year especially now it's so damp and they stick the paths Found my lost earing while I was sweeping Composted all but one of my Tom plants today and all but two Pepper plants, crikey has it let some light in the GH Found some pots infested with Vine Weevils Primula type plants and a few young Strawberries. Had to go round then and do the tug test on other plants they like to see if any others were effected. Thankfully they weren't. I'm sure I did more than this but the old brain is a bit tired atm

Ooooh, sounds like a useful lad ;D Had a major garden tidy-up today - chopped down the malva, dahlia, hypericum, feverfew and anything else that was looking bedraggled, weeded out the latest Buddleia seedlings, put some manners on the Solanum - now the beds look good but the patio is a mess with all the clippings etc.; compost bin is already overflowing - so will have to pay for an extra bin bag or three, since we don't yet have a compostibles collection But now that most of the perennials have been cut down, leaving the evergreens, the garden actually looks quite good - and I'm really chuffed, because this time last year it looked awful and bare ... cheers ...

You have been busy CC I spent an hour tidying up the veg plots - removed all dead leaves from the parsnips, pulled a few weeds out and turned the frozen soil in the one bed that is nearly empty - just a few sprouts left in that one. Garlic and japanese onions are looking OK so far, and there are plenty of decent sized leeks. Weeded the border which I have planted with spring bulbs, quite a few narcissus and dwarf dafs are peeping through, and the little aliums have 4" of leaf showing, wonder if they will flower x Tig

;D Problem is how do you jet hose a path when you have no electricity and the water is pumped from the ditch via the farmers pump which only works in summer. Is he any good with those scratch and pull things for cleaning between the bricks? And has he got a good back? No bed but some lovely plastic chairs to sleep on ;D Does demolishing conifers count as a clean up? In that case I have been unanimous with you all 4 1/2 done. Decided to chance it with the first two and plant Ivy against the all brown back. Might leave two at the end too so only 11 to go. Drtt what am I going to do after that?

I always say there is always something you can be doing in the garden no matter what the time of years is and everyone seems to have a touch of the gardening bug atm I love it, own little world, peace and quiet, that satisfied feeling or chuffed as you say CC ;D CC have you seen this for ideas instead of paying for an extra bin. I'm using bags atm gardenworld.proboards103.com/index.cgi?board=chat&action=display&thread=1196095289 I've left most of my plants in the garden, done a half chop and will do the rest in spring. I did a tidy up on the veg today too Tig, glad I'm not the only one who removes dead leaves, I also remove nibbled ones too. I like the Mad Woman veg to look there best ;D Potted on some carrots today for in the GH over winter Dutchy do you never stop ;D Like the idea of leaving one conifer at each end it leaves somewhere for the birds to roost and shelter in the depths of winter

Chuckles, my garden is full to the brim with compost and leafmould bags - and it is a tiny garden (imagine the smallest garden you have ever seen and then divide it by half ;D) - I wouldn't mind, except Dublin City Council has been promising a compostible collection for ages - and, apart from having to pay, it seems ridiculous to be sending that sort of stuff to landfill - OK, rant over ;D ... cheers ...

I have managed to get into the garden quite a bit over the last couple of days, it has been cold but dry. So everything has been cut back, the greenhouse is almost full of tender plants which I lifted, and I've made a start on moving the ton of stone gravel I bought to lay where there was a bit of lawn left. I have grass elsewhere, but in one bit of garden, I had increased the borders so much, the wee bit of lawn was difficult to cut. You know how it is, too many plants, too little garden

Today I have tidied some of the boarders - removed anything that looked like it might harbour pests, and swept more leaves up (hopefully that is the last time as the trees and bushes are all quite bare now). Removed the ice and cleaned the bird baths and put in some fresh water, filled the feeders and scattered some bread. Also put some compost in pots and brought indoors to warm up ready for the first lot of seeds to try ;D ;D ;D

At least I am not the only one doing happy typo thingies. I got the same idea and took some compost inside. A bit early as I want to sow Sweat Sweet peas on Christmas ( yes they are bound to fail but I just want to try ) But now I can't forget. I cleaned the paths. The contorted willow has now lost all its leaves so I swept all into the borders. Good cover and mulch and adding to the soil.
