I did think about pruning the buddleia today but found lots of other things to do Been out moving a few thing around and planted some white foxgloves and some potentilla Monarch's Red Velvet and Penstemons. I've given in and emptied my bedding plants out of their pots and planted up some agapanthus that have never flowered while in the flower beds (I think they may be white - time will tell The compost bins are full again Buddleia pruning next week end - maybe

Cut back the pyracantha and other climbers growing up the neighbour's garage wall which forms part of my boundary. Again, waste not want not. Have recycled some of the longer extra thorny pyracantha stems as a disincentive for when 'Poo Cat' next comes calling at the veg plot latrine!

I have done soooooo much today. Chopped off a load of perennials that had gone past their best, moved a philadelphus, moved another shrub (don't know what it's called though), cleaned out the greenhouse, chopped the runner beans down and planted some winter pansies. I dug 2 borders over and weeded them (first time for absolutely ages) and emptied a load of pots, tubs and baskets that were past their best. All in all, a busy but satisyfing day. I'm absolutely knackered now though !!

Today I have mowed the grass, back and front. I've tidyied up the front borders and made a start on the back, but ran out of time.

I started tidying the top border yesterday, it was TOO HOT though, today I've done some more because I want to get my seed grow perennials in. I grew them on in pots so I could keep the slugs & snails at bay.It really worked too, lovely strong plants I am really proud of them.

Spent yesterday afternoon re-vamping the front raised bed - much of the work consisted of trying to extract a shrubby salvia which was grown from a cutting taken last year and had grown huge and messy - with roots to match. Now the bed consists of a variegated Weigela, a variegated grass whose name I've forgotten, heuchera and eunonymous with some viola labradorica - a bit boring, but should look good throughout the winter (well, that's the plan, anyway ;D) ... cheers ...

Taken out all my toms today (just got two cuttings which I'm hoping will be in fruit for Christmas ) Tidied a Juncus effusus spiralis which is growing in a pot, removed some of my marigolds so that I could plant narcissus, ixia and alliums (95 bulbs have gone in - wonder how many will come up?) - I have some red tulips to plant at the back of the bed later, then had a wander round with my camera (again!)

I've been tidying up the summer bedding...cutting back spent perennials and composting the trusty bedding that has put on a good show despite our weather. I've already put most of the bulbs in, just a few alliums to plant when my back recovers....

CPB have you tried using a back support ? Our physio lent me one when I hurt my back a few weeks ago. Its a maternity belt of all things but it certainly helped and I wear it if I'm going to do any heavy work. They are cheaper on ebay than on the Nexus site. cgi.ebay.ie/MATERNITY-BELT-Support-and-prevent-back-pain-strain_W0QQitemZ160158584237QQihZ006QQcategoryZ137725QQcmdZViewItemI've been outside for most of the day, and its hard to believe that it is October - the sun has been shining and its been lovely and warm I finally got my flat pack composter from Crocus in the week so that was job No 1. No instructions though, I'm glad I still had the old catalogue so I could look at the picture. Thought I was doing fine till I got to the end and realised that there were 2 pieces left over that should have been on the bottom It all came apart and I started all over again. A bargain at £29 ;D I turned out the black bins into the new heap, which was just as well because they were full again by the end of the afternoon. I've been cutting things back and rearranging others. My son turned up to use the computer and he kept me going in Tea and bacon butties ;D

Mowed lawn (most boring job in the world)
Turned compost (Love it!)
Weeded out cottage garden, moved some of the perennials, mulched with manure and compost.
Started to lay gravel paths through cottage garden.
Cut back chamomile in herb seat.
Sowed broad beans in root trainers.
Started off prepared hyacinths.
Tired and backache!

just cut the grass at last, tidyied up the boarders and gave it all a good water as the ground was sooo dry.
Also while pottering around I noticed that some of the bulbs (hyacinths, tulips, gladioli and god knows what else) that I left in the pots and ground from last year are coming up!!! Isn't it a bit early?

the most boring job in the garden is trimming privets, and all the tidying up afterwards.

Five tubs of asiatic lillies - re-potted and checked for the nasties! Only found three of the horrors in one pot - so the treatment worked (mostly). Only six more pots to do later in the week. Harvested four decent sized courgettes - cold nights haven't done them in yet!

I was planning to sort out my garden and another garden my friend and I look after, during half term week, later this month. Unfortunately though, I am going into hospital soon for an operation and will be out of action for a while. So I have spent the weekend trying to get both gardens ready for winter/spring. I have lifted the summer bedding (which might have lasted a little longer if I'd had the time to leave them in) and planted bulbs, wallflowers and pansies. Hope the weather stays dry a little longer so that I can mow the grass and finish tidying up. Otherwise it will all have to wait until the spring as OH does not like gardening (and I wouldn't trust him anyway).

I spent the weekend lopping down the humumgously over grown hedges in my garden - some were over 12ft tall.......we had a HOOOGE bonfire and I am soo achey, even my thumbs hurt but I am so glad it's done. It has revealed the total wreck that is my garden but now I'm girding myself for the digging over ahead of me - the veggie garden, the flower garden and the patio border.....and a mammoth nettle pulling session.......
