If you could have a tv/celebrity gardener (dead or alive) come and help you in the garden to pass on their tips/knowledge who would you chose and why?
Jardack (who was watching various programes today to avoid Peppa Pig in the other room...!)

Geoff Hamilton would be my choice, because he wouldn't tell me off for all the mistakes I'm sure I've made! He would just suggest what I could do to put them right and get better results! Lovely man he was Tig

I'd choose Nigella Lawson because I'm sure she must do some gardening...and I'd insist she wore a vest

Do you know she's 47 years old I've worked with Chris Collins and Paul Sturgess but you really can't beat Big Al Titchmarsh really

47? Really? Life's been very kind methinks... On a serious note, I'd have to go for Geoff Hamilton myself for the same reason Tigridia gave...

I'm for Geoff too. I cannot hear the theme tune for Gardener's World without a lump coming to my throat. I'm not much into stardom or celebrity, don't get attached to public figures, but when Geoff Hamilton died, I was very upset. I think many of us felt the same. There was just something special about that man. But my second choice would be Dan Pearson. I have a yen for the arty type. ;D

I'd go for Geoff too. I 'discovered' him just as my interest in gardening was taking off. And he really oozed love and passion for it. Like wt, I felt like I'd lost a good friend when he died. Still miss his whole approach. Big Al comes a close second though.

When gardening you also need a good sense of humor. After all, most things do exactly what you don't expect. So I suppose Carol Klein comes to mind as I think one can have a real good giggle with her and she knows her plants. As for hard work I think I could use Christine as well. She always reminds me of a tornado rushing through the green. I saw her program where she was clearing a friends garden. Impressive and she loves plants. Mind you she can be a bit pushy so perhaps I should stick to just Carol. Three ladies in a garden might be a dissaster in the making ;D

The wonderful Geoff Hamilton. Like many others I felt I had lost a friend when he died. He was always so down to earth, and a lover of 'cut price' solutions. I am sure he could help me turn my garden into a true oasis of beauty.

Thanks everyone Seems like Geoff is a favourite then! I never really watched GW when he was presenting but have seen a few repeats with him and he certainly seems to be very down to earth and knowledgeable. I like Mr T too tho! Funny how no-one has picked any of the new/younger gardeners that pop up on the tv - is that a reflection of the age of people who've replied, or are they just a bit too young to be classed as "knowledgeable" IYSWIM Jardack who is pondering waiting for her Indian ;D

Geoff Hamilton for me.He was so down to earth. When he presented GW he had me glued to the tv. I also felt very sad at his untimely death. I also like Christine Walkdon.

Interesting that several people have chosen Christine. There was a particularly vehement thread on the Beeb lambasting her after her first series on TV.
I never realised she had presented Gardeners' World until the 40th anniversary show a couple of weeks ago.

Hi Dr. Bill - how are you keeping ? - hope you are well. I was surprised also that she had presented on GW, until we saw her on the 40th anniversary. - didn't she look different. Jardack - for me it would have to be Geoff Hamilton or Alan Titchmarsh, because I like there down to earth nature. I also like GH's thriftyness not that I watched him on GW at the time but have watched a video of his since. - I love the idea of turning nothing into something. ;D - Mind you I do have problems with OH on that front.

Simon Harrison-Knibbs - anyone remember him? Where is he now? And Christine with Reg so the day will pass in laughter Did you know Dr Bill that Christine's elderly parents were very distressed and upset to read some of the un-necessary rude remarks made about her, her size and appearance - I left the Beeb board after - they upset me too - she is harmless and didnt deserve it Everyone entitled to an opinion but not when it gets very very personal

How on earth can I have missed this? Ah well! I think it would have to be Geoff Hamilton partly because I've read and heard so much about him yet haven't ever seen him on TV that I'd like to know him a bit better. And possibly Titch, just coz he's Titch!!!

I was merely saying that I was surprised she had been on GW back in 80's and how different she looked ( make up team had made her look so different) - I would not have reconised her otherwise. I like some of here programmes and also find her down to earth like GH and AT. I hope I have not offended anyone. Alicat.

I also like Alan and have read some of his books. They seem to have a sense of reality to them that I like as well as the humour. - My opinion I know, and not what everyone thinks. Think I better log off now before I get in trouble with the family. I've really enjoyed just reading about how everyone else is doing. (tip of the iceberg really) Take care all. Alicat.x

I never realised she had presented Gardeners' World until the 40th anniversary show a couple of weeks ago. I don't really enjoy her programme but I have a lot of respect for the lady as she is a REAL gardener...she doesn't worry about trivia like design or fashion. She just loves the plants. My TV gardener would be Geoff Hamilton too, like so many people. He had a profound effect on me as an enthusiastic young gardener keen to learn anything and everything. But Monty Don would be my second choice - he even sounds like Geoff sometimes I think......

I'd go for Rachel De Thame because she's very easy on the eye !!
I must admit, I'd never really warmed to Monty until I watched the programme he did with the drug addicts. He went up massively in my estimation after that and for that reason, I'd have him as my second choice.
