Poo - though the shed-end I have in mind affords the sheltered spot you suggest. We'll give it a go and report back later...thanks, P.

Don't be too disappointed OM - it's a lovely plant with stunning flowers. I just haven't had a great deal of success with it that's all - you might though! And 3m can be classed as shed-covering!!! I'll have to go and see what they say about it now ;D

I too have my bargain £3.99 Sieboldii on order from T&M which will hopefully assist in making a better display than I get at the moment with my 4-year old Sieboldii! Flip me too, I keep forgetting about that P, delivery around June time if I remember ;D ;D

Yep! We've got to wait until June I couldn't find anything from T&M saying Sieboldii was shed covering OM - can you post the link? On a more positive note, OH asked what I wanted for Easter so I gave him a long list of clematis and Sheila Chapman's phone number! ;D Fingers crossed

P.
I wasn't told I would have to wait until June,(grrr) and while I can't give you a link, you can find it by putting say the asparagus on offer in your 'cart', then going to checkout, when it will put all sorts of other offers in your way, among them:
"Clematis Sieboldii Only £3.99 when you place a seed order before 6th April 2007 Transform walls, fences and unsightly garden sheds with this stunning Clematis, or simply create a floral focal point on the patio or lawn. The large flowered, much sought after florida Sieboldii is fantastic planted in pots as well as borders. One Special Pack per household. Subject to availability. Worth £17.99"
Is this a different sieboldii to yours and chuckles'?
OM.
ps - should have said - you don't actually have to buy anything to go throught the 'cart and checkout' test...

That's a very confusing offer because it says you have to place a seed order! Don't worry though I didn't get your account - just the T&M page with the offer. I think they are right that you could transform an unsightly shed, but it would take more than one plant to really make a difference so they are pushing the description slightly, in MY opinion ;D

Well I have planted my new clems and together - can't wait to see what they are like together.
Also damned annoyed - meant to put some slug pellets out the other day and I forgot - now one of my new clems has lost every leaf and been nibbled back to nearly nothing.

It should still be ok Rosefriend. If you cook with eggs, save the shells - bake them in the oven then crush them and put them around your plants as a mulch. It won't stop the slugs and snails but I'm convinced it helps. Garlic pellets are pretty good too. Fingers crossed!

Good tip Plocket - thanks - I will certainly try.
I tend to use Slug Pellets although I am sure that brings them in although it kills them as well. At least the new stuff nowadays seems to avoid them leaving slime everywhere.

Mmmm I try and avoid slug pellets because of the wildlife implications, and because as you say I think it actually attracts the slugs. If they work for you though that's fine. Personally I prefer the garlic pellets because they are natural, and they do seem to work. They are more expensive though. Try the egg shells though, and coffee grounds are good too. Keep us posted about your poor clematis - which one was it?

Unless I am very much mistaken it is one of the new ones - well last year - Texensis "Duchess of Albany" .
As far as slugs are concerned I am always prepared to try something new. As our neighbour doesn't do anything in the garden, the slugs live in his high grass all day and come for a damn good feed to us at night.

Hi Plocket I moved a clem last autumn and lost the label all I know is that it is white with a purple centre and I liked it Was it Florida Sieboldii Jlottie? No it isn't Plocket but I would like one This is what it looks like

There will be quite a few contenders with that one JLottie, but I'd say it was either Miss Bateman, Mrs George Jackman (which is semi-double - does that happen to yours?), possibly Snow Queen, or even James Mason. Those are the most readily available whites with purple stamen, but there are lots more! ;D

One way of putting slug pellets down without harming wild life is to put them in an ice cream carton, but cut a hole in the side. The slugs go into the box. It worked for me last year. It's a good excuse to buy some ice cream. Janet.

Hi there. I went over to my Mum's to give her a hand in the garden on Sunday and, as has become the norm, I came home with some small off cuttings of plants from her garden. One of which is an Alpine Clematis (Clematis Tenuiloba Ylva). When it flowers (and hopefully it will) it should look something like this.
