Hi Bagpus I had a feeling Plocket didnt have one of these ;D And thank you Plocket yes I am very pleased with Pamela and in fact I love it when the flowers die and the pretty fluffy seed heads appear
My Alabast looks very healthy as this is its 2nd year with me - Broughton Star forging ahead no buds as can see yet and Montana R also this year growing more than normal and my fav Hagley Hybrid a slow starter
I also have an un named one and realise I dont have enough do I - have space for two more one in sandy soil - any ideas - and the other will have to go in clay soil near my fence - all the others are in containers

I like the seed heads too - and they vary so much too.
You have a lovely selection of clematis Jenny - what type do you think you want next, for the two new ones I mean? How much sun will they the get and how big can they grow?

One can cover a fence and there is a trellis in place plus the other one too - clay soil tho I dont mind what I get I think I will go to GC when they are just in bloom and pick a couple I fancy a lime green one tho have to say that takes my fancy - into lime green plants at the moment after success with my Green Star glads ;D j w xx

I bought another Clem today - bit straggly and not very well but I got it cheaper and with a bit of tlc I think/hope that it will be ok.
It is Clem. Snow Queen - is this a good one - I haven't heard of it before?

It's a lovely one Rosefriend, rather like my James Mason. Are you going to plant it on it's own or with something else like a rose?
You are so lucky having the space Jenny! Do let me know what you choose!

I am not sure where to plant it actually - I made a silly mistake in that I took all the labels off my other clems and thought that I would remember which Clems I have put where - mmmmh well I have forgotten of course.
I had thought that it would look rather nice with one of the Texensis Clems - what do you think? I don't want the large blooms of Snow Queen to cover up the smaller blooms.
My OH wants it on the fence but it would get the midday sun.....or he wants it to climb a small tree - again in the midday sun.

I bet you can remember the names of all your roses though Rosefriend - I can go round the garden and name every clematis whether it's in flower or not, but I forget the names of lots of my other plants I wouldn't put Snow Queen with a texensis Rosefriend - the new one is a group 2 and the texensis are group 3s. Unless you think you can prune one and not the other so much - which I can assure you will be one heck of a job once they have matured a bit. It is a good clematis for full sun though so up a fence or climbing through a small tree would be ok. That'll keep your OH happy Or you find a new spot, and find a very different group 2 clematis to grow with it!!!

Yes you are right I can remember the names of all my Roses whether they are in flower or not. I do have a very bad memory for names although very good for numbers so I tend to try and associate a number for the plants - doesn't always work.
Thanks for the warning about putting it with the Texensis - never thought of that.
Well the tree is a possibility then, although your last suggestion appeals a lot - buying another Group 2 and putting them together......
Thanks a lot

I too have my bargain £3.99 Sieboldii on order from T&M which will hopefully assist in making a better display than I get at the moment with my 4-year old Sieboldii! Flip me too, I keep forgetting about that P, delivery around June time if I remember ;D ;D Just got my asparagus and onion sets - sure enough, no clem!!! Looks like June, then for shed covering... P need a bit of help That Viticella Black Prince I bought the other week has been put in a big pot. It says height 7-10ft on the label and aAt the moment it's at 5ft and has some nice lush new growth on it, at about 4ft it has two very soft and wispy young stems. I'm worried they'll snap off when I'm on hols and not here to tie them in, will it hurt if I snip these off now.

No it won't do the plant any harm at all Chuckles, but it will stimulate the plant to grow more, and you could get less flowers this year. You don't say whether it's waiting to be potted up or whether it's in the big pot permanently, but I'd be inclined to put some tall canes in so it can support itself while you are away. If you can't untangle the canes after your hols they can be short term supports just for this year and then you can set it up properly for next year. Does that help? Px

Fab P thanks, it's in the big pot until I can think where else to put it or it may stay there Had untangled it and put 3 8ft canes in and some small ones lower down but had visions of it doing it's own thing while I was away, it's put on such a growth spurt since I planted it. Coz it knows it's got a good home ;D Thanks again.

It should be fine with the 8ft canes and even if the odd stem does snap it's not a problem because it will put on new growth from just below. Any stems that grow over the 8ft while you are away might blow about a bit but they should be ok - how long are you going away for then? ;D

Away for 2 weeks in the Algarve P and although I love going I hate leaving my garden. It's that time of year when everything is starting to growing like mad and I wish I was around to see it. All my Clems are growing so well and there will be no one to tuck those new shoots in when they try to escape from the trellis or canes etc they are meant to cling on too

Oooh how lovely - when do you go?
I know what you mean about going away - we are going away in August and I just know that there will be lots of things to harvest. Luckily I've got a friend who'll call round and pick all the veggies so they keep producing.

Go on Saturday P, and looking round the garden this morning I can see loads of big fat buds on several of my Clems that I will miss opening especially some of those new one's I bought that I've not seen in the flesh so to speak. Never mind I can't have it all ways.

They should still be in flower when you return though Chuckles, and you'll be enjoying yourself so much on holiday that you won't miss them

No pics Plocket, but can you tell me of a clem that looks like a Miss Bateman but has a green stripe through the white leaves. It was a rescue from a neglected garden. When I first saw it I was convinced it was another Miss Bateman but the green stripe has persisted and has not faded yet.

I added another Clematis to my collection yesterday....unfortunately it didn't have a label not sure which one i've got. There were three possibilities so will have to wait and see.
I'll probably post a pic for id at some point.

When does it flower Aprilaydee? A particularly popular "alba" clematis is Alba Luxurians but its' got green tinges on the tips of the petals, and another popular one is Alba Plena, which has quite a fluffy looking centre, or even the double Jackmanii Alba? Will you try and post a piccy so we can see it?

It's in flower now. And very purty it is too.
Got big white flowers and a sort of fluffy centre like the Barbara Jackman one.
Mum says it's called something Alba.
