Most of us here use Photobucket, and it's free. Chuckles did an 'article' on it: adding photosGive it a go - once you become 'fluent' it's great fun and adds to threads. besides, you'll want to enter something to win "Best in Show", won't you? OM.

And a 'hmmm' from me, too... Mine's gone all 'branchy' on me: I was expecting a spire of a thing like a giant foxglove or verbascum - have I got another variety do you think? It's growing well, whatever it is - the canes in the corner are 8 feet... OM

No that's fine - they do go like that sometimes - they have a mind of their own!!

Well, I also seem to have the candelabra version - growing nicely, but I don't think they'll flower this year - must be triennial, which is a bit of a pain, because I had stuff ready to go into their spots in the autumn. Still, they do look nice and palm-like ... cheers ...

Mines about 4' tall now and sprawling no signs of a flower spike, maybe next year.

Finally have some flowers - but it's not the towering glory I was hoping for: Maybe the smaller ones in front will be more dramatic. OM.

Oh dear, OM But at least you have flowers - mine are just sulking at around five foot. At least the candelabra bits have dropped out, so they look a bit more columnar - hopefully next year ... cheers ...

maybe if you keep the plants to one stem there'll be a single towering flower OM... Mine's just getting bigger and taking up lots of room... I reckon that IF we get it through the winter in one piece we might get some sort of display next year... If not...it's compost.

It's odd this - apparently my plants came from Saturday Telegraph seeds as part of an offer/trial/competition, but neither the telegrapph website or my neighbour has any ref to it. He definitley recalls bedroom-window-threatening plants being promised from it...
In the meantime, please - if anyone's down at Slapton in the next month or so, go along the coast road to Torcross, do the sharp right uphill around the end of the Ley, and on the bank by the side of the road, more or less opposite Hannaford's the butchers, should be some echiums. Proper echiums. Get some seed for us all!
OM.

I'll endorse that, OM! Mine were grown on from self-sown seedlings - and the parents were reportedly window-threatening specimens - wonder if the weather could have anything to do with it? ... cheers ...

Mine were grown on from self-sown seedlings - and the parents were reportedly window-threatening specimens - wonder if the weather could have anything to do with it? ... cheers ... Well, butter my bottom and call me a biscuit, I was down in Chichester the other day and spotted this: The proud owner said he'd been growing them for ten years since there was a free seeds offer in the GW mag, and he had these pearls to offer: If they get frosted they branch out (I guess it's a pinched out growing tip thing) and he's found a four year cycle to get to full steeple-like glory, then they die. So, weather may well have something to do with it CC. He gave me some seedlings and invited me to call by for more if needed - how lovely was that!! OM. OM.

What a nice man...but then gardeners are...in MY experience...some of the nicest folk you could ever wish to meet ;D
Good tip about the frost...I may well fleece mine this winter, it's over 2 years old and still a single stem. About 4 ft tall now.

I'm going to move one of mine down the border a bit Cheery where it might get more early sun, they're in a right old frosty corner where they are, I could kick myself...

If I'd of known you wanted fresh seed Moley.... After seeing all that was on offer in the Scilly's (maaaahooosive!!) and the more compact ones in Madeira (Pride of), I'm glad I have the biggies still in pots, I will choose their placing carefully. My Pride of Madeira ones from Crocus are tucked in and doing nicley but I will be fleecing them in the winter.

Or are you admitting a seed-gathering opportunity has been missed? OM.

Blimey, that's 5m/16footish using the handy OH scale... back to Tresco for you Amo, and collect some echiseed this time!
Do you think that a note to the head gardener of wherever it was, maybe directing him/her to this forum and thread might result in a bit of seed-collecting for us?
Hugely excited, OM.

I'm all of a dither now as to how to protect mine...up until this summer my pininana was in a large pot...but it's now in the border so I won't be able to drag it into the GH this year...I might have to build a cage around it and fill it with straw, then fleece over that... like I do with the musa.....wadja fink?

Well done, Chuckles... I'm in for some of those! - except 'blue steeple', that's what I'm specialising in failing with at the mo... And CPB, at the risk of exposing your echi to unecessary danger, I think they're ok without caging if you can protect the growing tip... OM.

Mulch the roots and protect the growing tip and you should be ok - famous last words!! Actually, don't take any notice of me - they grow like weeds in my garden so I tend to be a bit blase about their care!!
