Never expected to find this, while strimming the remote corner where the poor, doomed echys were planted last year: So, sulky or not, I'll get it into fine fettle with a bit of watering and risk lifting it to it's new, sunnier home in a few weeks time. What's nice about this is that being biennial, we thought there would be a year's gap now in the Norfolk echium experiment - assuming we get any seed 'away' this year. This must have come from the tiny desperate speck of blossom I found before the originals gave up the ghost... I'd still love seeds from anyone - and seedlings if poss! OM

Has the little gift by Nature got a new home yet?

Nope, Dutchy, am awaiting inspiration for garden layout 2010 and the inclination to dig a bag of compost into the chosen spot. Should happen any day week now...

Furtling around in the shed yesterday, I found an envelope full of collected echium seed.....now. Can I go through it all again? FOUR YEARS of prickles, repotting, protecting in the winter etc etc..... of course I can.......

I've bought some seed Cheery, but the 'destructions' aren't very clear! When is the bestest time to sow them? And ... should I bother up here in the chill of Staffordshire x Tig

I'm going to construct some sort of shelter for the echiums out of fleece, straw and bamboo poles....

Mine germinated (sown in May this year) and I now have one large one and two smallish ones and a tiny seedling all from the same sowing. The big one is going to get planted out, not sure where yet though , and it won't be getting any protection! x Tig
