Today I've resown some African Marigolds and other saved Marigold seeds, I've sown some Sweetpea to help prolong the amount of them I have this summer. I've also sown some of my Broad Beans, just to give them a head start before planting them out in the allotment.

I sowed some cerinthe the other day and I was not impressed. They were from T&M and cost £3.99. There were only 4 seeds in the packet I hope they germinate

4 that's ridiculous, I'm still sowing the ones that Ladygardener sent me last year, I'll have a look in my seed store in the morning, I'm sure I've still got some left as I'm collecting my own now. If your's don't germinate let me know. (They are very easy & quick though so you should know soon).

Auricula I've just checked & I have got spares. The only problem I have with Cerinthe is you give them a little bit of bottom heat to get them going & you only have to blink & they're up & getting leggy. I've got some on the windowsill atm that are about 6" tall with only their seed leaves. They don't mind being planted deeply when they're pricked out though.

I remember them being very expensive Auricula Jilly glad you have saved some too. I've got some as well and have sown some and am waiting on germination. They're so easy to harvest once they're really ripe, they just fall into your hands. If you have to pick them off then they are'nt ripe enough. I would'nt worry too much about them being a bit leggy Jilly I have a feeling that a lot of our seedlings will be leggy if the proposed cold snap comes along.

That is ridiculous Auricula!! They set seed easily and even I have been lucky enough to get self sown seedlings growing and overwintering! I will look in my seed stock too, reckon I collected some last year.

The price of Cerinthe seeds is ridiculous - seeds can be got so easily - it would interest me to know why they are so expensive...?? Wonder what kind of answer we would receive if we wrote to T & M etc??

Thanks girls for your support - I was disappointed to say the least It'll teach me to look at the price and number of seeds ( average) on the packet next time, before I buy

I've been doing a bit of sowing today. The Delphiniums have gone out to the grow house, perhaps they didn't get a decent pre chilling in the fridge, well the weather forecast for next week should sort that out. I've found a space for the Rudbeckias in with the chilli seedlings, under a cover but no heat, if they can't cope with that, that will be the last chance. Sowed Geranium Bill Wallis (thanks Ladygardener) & my own saved Splish Splash seeds in the growhouse. In the propagator have re sown the Cleome (only because I had half a pack left) & Tithonia, Cosmos Purity, Antiquity & Brightness mixed (thanks again LG), an old packet I found of Verbascum Southern Charm & some home collected blue Salvia.

The rudbeckias you sent me are up Jilly! I've just sowed Squashes Uchiki Kuri and Sweet Dumpling and some left over ricinus (love the way Carol Klein said that this morning - if she's right I've been saying it wrong!) Also sowed Rosefriend's Fuzzy Wuzzy toms!

If my experience is anything to go by, them coming up is the start of your problems Jasmine, see my posts further up the page Auricula I was on the T&M site this morning, looking at their seed offer (not that I need any more) & I spotted Cerinthe, you must have been very unlucky as the average pack contents is meant to be 10. The person who got the pack after you probably got 16

I know, it said average 10 on my packet... but 4 was all I got

Oh dear Jilly, I started mine with some bottom heat on top of the boiler cupboard but they've been upstairs for a few days now. I was worried they were getting leggy so decided they needed more light. I'll have to keep my eye on them.

I know, it said average 10 on my packet... but 4 was all I got I would complain Auricula - that's not an average - that's ridiculous! For an average you could expect to get between 8 or 12 I would have thought, not 4 to 16.

Well done Jasmine, I know just how you feel (little things make some of us very happy ) The tree paeony I grew from seed didn't all survive, out of six that germinated 3 got eaten by slugs and one just keeled over, they were in the cold frame without any protection I should add. I eventually raised two and they have both come back up this year. I've no idea what they will grow into as a friend gave me the seeds. I did buy a rockii this year though

Thank you ladies. I don't suppose they will flower for several more years and that's if I get them past the bean sprout stage!

Desperate times means desperate measures and because we have no chance of getting into the garden/GH and most of the window sills are full OH has OK'd me filling up part of the lounge window sill....orchids are on the chest - they should be OK.
So 2 windowsill propagators are now full of:
Balsamine - Impatiens balsamina - Topknot Mixed Schizanthus pinnatus Malope trifida "Glacier Fruits" Aster - Duchess Blue Ice Tagetes - Bonita Tagetes - Bonanza Bolera Verbena Sparkles Mixed Zinnia Peppermint Stick Calendula Apricot Twist Antirrhinum Striped 'n Spotted Heliotrope Dwarf Maine Swan River Daisy Bravo
If I work my cards right I might even manage another Prop...there's definitely place for 3 more Orchids on the chest!!

Despite the cold, all the Cosmos are up, including the Brightness mixed & the Tithonia are just breaking the surface , not sure where I'm going to put them as they'll need to come out of the propagator in a couple of days & the spare room gets a bit chilly at night
