Spruance, I'd go for it, but don't keep them too warm once they've germinated otherwise they'll grow leggy.

I was wondering what seeds could/should be sown now but I think I'll leave it a while longer. Hope your magnolia do well for you tig. You could think about Geraniums from seed soon as well as Begonias. If you grow veg, chillis, onions, peppers, parsnips and even Tomatoes can be sown now

I've had a look through my seeds and because I've got the covered back which never goes below 10c and I can play around with positions to get things warmer, I've sown Leeks Porvite. They're ment to be quite resistant to rust so we'll see. Oregano Rocket and Basil. Thanks andy.I'll hold off on the tomatoes yet as I've learned that for me, they'll grow leggy before I can get them outside and there just would'nt be quite enough light for them to grow inside. I'll start off my overwintering Begonia soon, they'll be entered into Tig challenge this year.

My seed order arrived today so I have sown those which needed to be sown fresh or require a period of cold in order to kickstart germination - aronia melanocarpa, peltoboykinia watanabei, anemone multifida 'major' & aquilegia skinneri 'tequila sunrise' are all outside in pots. I have also sown the cypella coelestis to keep indoors as they may take a while to germinate and it would be nice to get a flower this year

Sorted out my seed box at the weekend, was desperate to start sowing, but held off on anything inside, as from previous experience, I can't keep seedlings going in the spare room for long enough if I sow this early. So I've done a little experiment to keep me going. As I've had no success with Delphiniums even after chilling them, I had some fresh seed that Ladygardener, sent me, so I've put the envelope in the freezer for a week, but I also found a couple of old half packets, so as the weather forecast is for it to get colder, I've just sown them & put them on the plant stand, with no protection & I'm just going to let them get on with it, (or not )

Would'nt it be great if this year you had tons of them Jilly. I got my Mina Lobata and Antirrhinum Day and Night seeds yesterday so will sow a few later today.

The magnolia sieboldii seeds I have had in the fridge for 3 months have been sown this morning I made a stupid error when I sowed these. I forgot that they need light to germinate & had them buried at least half an inch below the surface. Could I find the seeds when I realised, black seeds in black compost are not easily found with deteriorating eyesight! I only managed to find 4 out of the dozen or so that I sowed. They are kept just damp, on a south facing windowsill, and imagine my delight this morning when I spotted that two have germinated, only just starting to sprout so no leaves yet, but I am confident I'll get at least one to grow Thanks to RF for supporting my lunacy on the seed sowing front

Do hope you feel better soon...

Did a bit of sowing yesterday, Delphiniums (that have been in the freezer), Rudbeckia Cherry Brandy (from Tig,) & Echinacia from Ladygardener,. Also sowed some home saved Cleome, I didn't put those in the propagator, just covered them with cling film, so hopefully they might get some fluctuating temperatures. I've sowed the Cleome this early as they can be very erratic for me & if I don't get anything, I might order some seedlings from SR as I only want a few.

I sowed some Cosmos at the weekend too, some Purity that I had left & a mixed pack that I bought, only a pot full of each, but I still bet I end up with loads. Nothing showing on the Cleome I sowed, but to be honest I wasn't really expecting anything & I've got seedlings coming from SR. Think I might have failed yet again with the Rudbeckia Cherry Brandy too (sorry Tig,). I;m not really surprised though I can't even get Rudbeckia going from bought seed either & something still might happen.

The rudbeckia can be slow to germinate Jilly, I will sow some Cherry Brandy tomorrow, see if mine germinate OK.

I've never been able to get Rudbeckia Cherry Brandy to do much for me at all. If I'm lucky enough to get a few seedlings going they die off before reaching flowering stage. I've pretty much given up on them but have 3 or 4 other types that I grow without any bother. I'll be sowing again this year but have'nt started either them or my Cosmos yet.

I've taken the Cosmos out of the propagator Ladygardener, to try to slow them down a bit, which seems to have worked as they'd be very leggy if they kept on growing at that pace until I was able to put them in the growhouse. I might sow some Mina Lobata this weekend, they usually take their time to get going. GW magazine has got free Zinnia seeds this month.

I bought some heritage sweet peas at the RHS flower show at Tatton last year, they are sprouting nicely, but another pack I sowed, not a sausage, what does go on with some seeds.

Someone on Sunday's gardening programme Barbara, - Revival I think it was said something about Sweetpeas - that the dark ones take far more time to germinate than the lighter ones...or was it the other way around... Did anyone else see it - Ladygardener, Tig, Jilly, ?? Perhaps that is the problem Barbara - which ever way around it was... I have sown 2 lots of Dahlias, Stock's, Salpiglossis (thanks Tig,, - there were some good seeds in there), Heliotrope, Coreopsis and Nelken. Got loads more to do, including my Sweetpeas which I am going to do in the GH and keep covered up with fleece if necessary...
