I've always considdered Eryngium quite a difficult and tempremental seed to germinate. Imagine my surprise when my E. planum started coming up after about 4 days!!!! No sign of E. varifolium though yet.

That's good news bagpuss, I say that as someone who could never ever get plants from seeds and have resorted to buying plants.

Blimey andy, I'll be down at the Rock Gardens with my begging bowl if all that lot come up I've fired up the propagator and just sown a very few Rudbeckia Rustic Dwarf and a couple of pots of Cosmos for the compy, Candy Strips and my favourite Xanthos, I'm taking a chance that the kittens don't have the propagator down and it is a bit early and cold to do them, but I've got plenty of spares.

Blimey andy , I'll be down at the Rock Gardens with my begging bowl if all that lot come up You'd be welcome to any spare Jilly. It'll be a few weeks yet before i start pricking them out....they can then go into a cold greenhouse. One of my larger Sarcoccoca has self seeded everywhere so i dug up a few seedlings and pricked them out. I'm now the proud owner of 48 S. confusa seedlings.

I spotted a corydalis seedling in the coldframe today, think it is bronze beauty. I have dierama pulchicherrimum Blackbird and a packet of mixed dierama seeds soaking overnight in tepid water (well it was to start with!)

I can see some germination of my seedlings in the propagator in the kitchen, I resowed my Apricot Digitalis and can now see pin prick sized seedlings starting to sprout, Rudbeckia Rustic Dwarf, Calendula Orange King and Kees Orange, Aster Duchess Blue Ice as well as some spicy salad leaves which I've grown before and really like. I'd saved some Cosmos Bi Colour (not sure what the proper name ever was) and a couple of those have sprouted too.

The Cosmos Xanthos, and Candy Stripe and Rudbeckia Rustic Dwarf have germinated and have come out of the propagators. I've just sown Thunbergia Salmon Shades in there (I had to soak those overnight too Tig,). I got them cheap in a seed sale in the autumn, thought it was worth a try rather than pay for SR's Sunset shades, you don't get many seeds in a packet though

All the paeonia seeds are individually planted now in cells, apart from the p. cambessedesii which are 3 in one cell as they were smaller seeds, they are in the cold frame. The soaked dieramas have be all been planted in cells, 48 of them! They are in the front bedroom. Hope the thunbergia germinate for you Jilly

To be honest, apart from the occasional thing that takes my fancy and some veg, i've pretty much done all my sowing. I've bought tuberous begonias, gazanias and geraniums as seedlings and with the price of bedding so stupidly low, i'm getting all my dads bedding from Tesco this year.

A few of the Broad Bean Bunyard Exhibition I sowed last year have germinated. I've 3 different varieties this year and it'll be interesting to see how they all do.
Yesterday I sowed more Cosmos Xanthus, Double Click and Antiquity. No sign of germination yet from the Pea Hurst Greenshaft or Early Onward.

Darn that Tig. I ment to write that the BB were sown last week, not last year. I absolutely have to sow the Morning Glory this morning, they're sprouting in the water.

I've sprinkled blue pellets all round the cold frame this morning, hopefully that will stop any more damage, if there is anything left to germinate in the pots!

18 Begonia corms - 6 x Cascade Orange, 6 x Crispa Marginita White, 6 x Double Mixed
Bare Rooted - 3 x Echinacea White Swan, 3 x Gypsophylla
Arum Lily - 3 x Black
Seeds:
Catananche Godetia Moss Rose Osteospermum Tagetes Gaura Limnanthes Gazania Linaria Coreopsis Echinacea
Tomatoes - Sweet Millions and Tumbling Tom
Still to do ... Agrostemma, Echium and Nemophila.
A bit over board. If I only get a 50 % success rate I'll have to buy loads of pots. But it's theraputic

I agree maglonian, it's very therapeutic, more so when they actually come up though I've just put the Cobaea seeds into soak, supposed to do them for 2 hours, you certainly don't get many to a packet, I usually fail with them tbh but SR will still have some seedlings left if they fail. I've sown the Rhodochiton too as they didn't need soaking, you also don't get many to a packet of those either and they're like dust, T&M didn't even bother to put them in a foil pack, so I found most of them stuck in the groove at the bottom of the seed packet I cleaned my nails out into the pot just to make sure

My latest seed order arrived today so I am soaking the paeonies (officinalis banatica & peregrina). Might soak the hellebore seedlings too so I can pot them up tomorrow.

Peonies are now in trays in the coldframe. Helleborus Black Beauty, H. plantword doubles & arum dioscoridis are also in trays on the outside stand, and eranthis hyemalis Orange Glow are in a pot in shade.
Found another slug in the coldframe, not holding out much hope for any corydalis!

I agree maglonian , it's very therapeutic, more so when they actually come up though I'm like a new Dad today after noticing the Godetia are sprouting madly and a couple of marigolds are coming through. Most of my working career has been destroying forests and a few seeds germinating is far more satisfying

Aoife and Hannah sowed 10 Sunflowers each yesterday, I let them chose which ones they wanted and they've opted for Earthwalker (they were a great success last year) and Sunburst which is a new one for us. I'll be sowing more in a couple of weeks time. They'll be safe out back where the boiler is as it stays frost free.

I think there might be just a bit of movement on the Cobaea this morning.
Yesterday I pricked out a tray each of Cosmos Xanthos and Rudbeckia Rustic Dwarf, the Cosmos Candystripe had gone a bit leggy so I only picked out the best 4 of those, but I can always re-sow.

Re-sown some of the ones listed above because some of the emerging seedlings are getting a bit leggy
... silly question now, but is it safe to put trays of seedlings in a cold frame for the day, then bring them in at night ? Or is it too early ... averaging between 8 and 10 degrees
