Depends what you're growing maglonian, the hardy annuals will be ok. My Peas and Broad Beans are outside in a sheltered spot, likewise my sweetpea.

The Cobaea have germinated and I've even got signs of movement on the Thunbergia, so today I've sown some Hordeum and some more Cosmos.

I used cell trays for all seeds and mixed HA with HHA. I'll keep turning the trays on the window sill for a couple more weeks. Next year I'll know better

I sprinkled some saved tall pink Cosmos, most likely Sensation onto some cells yesterday. I've also sown some Tagets Tall Scotch Prize.

I have sown the primula seeds, alpicola, cockburniana and florindae Sunset. They are in one of the growhouses with a lid over their tray to keep the slugs out, hopefully. I think a mouse has been in the cold-frame!!! I think the dratted rodent has eaten the paeonia seeds out of two trays - there were holes where I planted them, and mouse poop

What a pain Tig. Will you put down a trap of some sort..

OH says there are two traps in the garage, somewhere!! I've moved the seed trays now, and will keep checking the frame for any signs of 'life'. I might buy a couple more traps if they've got any in Wilkies just in case OH can't find the old ones.
Been through the seed box this morning. Think I am going to scatter all the half hardy annuals around or it will be too late for them to ever flower this year.

Tig, I was thinking about scattering some poppies, calendula and Larkspur about in the annual bed yesterday, won't be doing it today though, it's too wet out there. But it's something I'll be doing in the next couple of days.

Some are ready to be transplanted into bigger pots anyways and whilst I know it's true of tomatoes can annuals and perrenials be planted that little bit deeper than they are right now ? Would this encourage stem rot ? So much conflicting advice on the web I think the only peoples I trust are here

I know it works with Cosmos maglonian, mine always go leggy. In fact I try it with most things, as most of mine get leggy

It depends what they are maglonian , some may be fine a bit deeper but others with softer stems will rot. It seems that the tougher the stem the more able they are to cope with being planted deeper. I have had my sowing fest - outside scattered in the borders: poppy - paeony flemish antique; antirhinum majus nanum - circus clowns; calendula - sunset buff, touch of red, art shades, orange king; candytuft fairy mixed; californian poppy single mixed; chrysanthemum cockade; helianthus prado red: In a pot outside mecanopsis wilsonii & phacelia bolanderi. In the cold frame impatiens arguta alba. Indoors petunia exserta; watsonia pillansii; iochroma australe; michauxia campanuloides; lobelia excelsa. What I've forgot to sow .... cosmos!

Thanks Jilly and Tig.
It's Tagetes and Limanthes (poached egg plant) I'll be transplanting. I'll play it safe and go just over the seed line
That's a lot of seeds Tig. I like googling everything you're all sowing ... such variation

Right Tig, Jilly, I'm going to go through my seeds over the next few days and see if there's anything I can scatter onto the few bits of bare soil. Yesterday evening I planted 3 bare rooted Astrantia Major Venice and potted up another 3. It was'nt difficult, I just dug a bit of a hole in the borders with my hand, (best way to make sure nothing else was planted there) and stuck them in and watered them.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Tig, Jenny never did fine the little package I'd given her with a few seeds in it. I guess that with the move last year a lot of things have gone awol. My Cornflower that I sowed the other day have germinated well. I have them sitting outside on the windowledge now. Also germinated are the Lobelia seeds I sowed in cells last week, I've grown them before and just plant the modules out in clumps.

Had another sowing fest today - scattered around the borders Calendula Neon, cornflower double black and a tall mixed packet, californian poppies - peach sorbet & appleblossom pink, and three packets of sweet peas sown in several containers and around the beds where there is something for them to climb up if they germinate.
Sown in pots to keep inside, cape gooseberry and four varieties of cosmos and my ricinus communis gibsonii

I forgot to sow any tithonia, and it took me ages to find where I'd put my saved seeds! I have popped some in the cells where the dierama didn't germinate as I'm running out of space now. The mouse had been in the coldframe again! Mouse poop on top of my pot of impatiens arguta alba!

This may seem like a strange question to the more experienced of you ... but fertilising seedlings after pricking out and transplanting into bigger pots ?
One of the hare-brained thoughts I've had is sprinkling and tickling a little bit of Blood Fish & Bone into each pot. Is this viable ? Adding it to the potting mix before transplanting for some; is out of the question as they're already potted up
... I guess the main question is ... if using MP compost without added fertiliser which is the best way to go to ensure transplants get the best start ?

maglonian, most mp composts have a bit of food in them which will last 6 weeks or so at the least. That's plenty for them, by that time you'll be either potting them on again or planting them out. I only useBFB or Growmore food sprinkled onto my borders in springtime and use slow release food which is something different, in my large containers and hanging baskets.

Never feed seeds maglonian! They have enough energy stored in the seed itself to get growing, seed and sowing compost if usually very low in nutrients because of this fact. MPC can be too rich is you move things on quickly, plants can get leggy and then they are weakended. Tough love is what most of them need, until they start blooming, that is the time to feed and deadhead regularly to get the best out of them. Some plants won't flower at all if they have too much food, they just grow lush foliage. My petunia exserta have germinated well, and the tithonia are up already. Other things are a bit slow ... patience is a virtue ...

Ricinus has poked its nose up, and I have 7 tithonias, think that should be enough. Must check what else I have that needs sowing

Cobaea are growing on well, will have to pot them up in individual pots with supports soon. Even got some tiny, tiny seedlings of Rhodochiton come through, but only got 3 seedlings of the Thunbergia, (they look quite health though), Mina Lobata is up after 4 days and loads to prick out of the Hordeum. The resowing of the Cosmos is just as leggy as the first ones, except for Xanthos which I've got a whole box pricked out of and is growing well and not leggy at all. Just waiting on my Tithonias, Tig, but I only sowed them a few days ago. And scattered all my hardy annuals in the middle bed, I tried nice neat rows, but Frank came over and rolled on the soil before I got them covered up, so will probably be a bit more mingled than I would like

I managed to behead one of the tithonia seedlings with the prop lid today Still got 6 growing though. The cape gooseberries & iochroma australe have germinated. Must be patient with the others, not holding out much hope for some of my sowings which should be appearing by now

The Sunflowers are coming through well now. Last evening I sowed some Beetroot seed into cells out back. I'll let them grow on a bit then plant them into the allotment.

Loose leaf lettuce, Rocket and Red Salad leaves all sprouting ... still no sign of the spring onions or chives after 10 days.
All the flowers I've sown are coming along nicely, lost a few top heavy ones but hey. I still have more than I need. I might give up on the linaria, godetia and moss rose. Even the second sowing grew leggy and spindly. I might try a third sowing this weekend
