The Sunflowers are coming through well now. Last evening I sowed some Beetroot seed into cells out back. I'll let them grow on a bit then plant them into the allotment. Normally I soak my beetroot seeds between 2 pieces of wet kitchen paper but this time I decided not to, most of my seeds sown the other day are up. This year I'm growing Detroit 2.

Aquilegia McKana hybrids, corydalis ophiocarpa bronze beauty (again as the mice ate the last lot) and podophyllum hexandrum (emodi) sown today. I have more germination in the candalabra primula tray and the alums I sowed have began to make roots.

I agree, it's not too late maglonian, I sprinkled some night scented stock around the bottoms of some of the containers outside, those with Hydrangea and other bits in them and they're up.

Apart from herbs and veg, i think i'm pretty much done with my seed sowing for this year now. Over the past 2 weeks, i've sown...
Amaranthus 'ilumination' Amaranthus 'early splendor' Ricinus....collected seed Cerinthe major Mesembryanthemum Night scented stock Lobelia tupa Agastache apricot sprite
All germinated and ready to prick out.
Im looking forward to seeing how the amaranthus turn out....if it's anything like the pictures on google, they'll be amazing!!!

Only one cosmos through so far and that suffered damping off. Sown more so time will tell
Also more salad leaves sown. Out of curiosity what's the least depth of container that anyone has has success with for looseleaf lettuce etc ? I've read that guttering will suffice but that seems not very deep
One success I'm happy with is the 4 gaura seeds I collected and sowed. All growing happily and one is totally different coloured leaved so interesting to see what colour it may be compared to the white the mother was

A seed tray would be my smallest depth maglonian but normally I use one of the plastic containers the grapes come in, I top up the soil gently around them once they've grown up a bit. Well done with the Gaura.

Well just as i thought i'd sowed everything and i could reclaim my conservatory, i was talking to my dad today about putting wallflowers in his pots, tubs and in the garden, probably alongside some Pansy and myosotis.
Anyone grown wallflowers in trays and pots and then pricked them out into cells or pots?

I've only ever sown them straight into the ground andy. They seem to like to get their roots down. You could grow them in the ground then lift and replant them in autumn, I have put them in pots with spring bulbs for a bit of extra colour.

Yes andy and very well they did too. I can grow very little in the ground but as long as you prick them on, they should do grand.

I do them in cells every year andy, they do very well, I don't even do them indoors, just out on my plant stand.

Mine are about an inch tall in seed trays Andy, I plant them at the allotment and home in the garden about July I think.
I've got cosmos and some larkspur on the go, the black poppy from Sarah Raven did nothing.

I've done a small tray of aquilegia, put it on the top shelf to try to keep the snails off it.

Wallflowers and Myosotis were sown about a month ago. For the wallflowers, i went for Tom Thumb mixed, monarch mixed, cloth of gold, scarlet bedder and ivory white. For the Myosotis, i went with just the 3 colours....rose, blue and white.
They all germinated well and i pricked them out yesterday. Most will go in tubs in my dad's garden in combinations of colours possibly with tulips added.

The foxgloves were drowned in the rain last night, might have to re-sow, I'll wait and see, it's OK because I still have lots of seeds in a big bag,

When I cut down my White and Apricot Foxgloves a few weeks ago Barbara, I shook them all over the flower beds and then I shook loads over a couple of pots, not looked in the flower beds but I've got millions in the pots, that'll be fun to prick out.

I love foxgloves and was gutted to realise I only had 1 this year. I'm letting it go to seed and will shake on the ground both here and at the plot. I'm absolutely rubbish at growing them in cells, for one reason or another I destroyed a couple of pks of seeds this year. Jilly fun indeed. Barbara, what a shame, at least there's still time. I've a pk of Pams Split to shake over the next couple of weeks. My Rocket is up and looking great.

They obviously don't mind being wet these foxgloves. lots of green showing in the tray, how to split them is the next problem, no show yet with the lupins but wall flowers are going along nicely.

I dead headed the violas on the front step and there were lots and lots of seed heads among them so I put them into a paper bag last week, out tumbled the little brown seeds, today I sowed lots of them into a tray of compost.

I've had good results over the years with little saved Violas Barbara, good luck with yours. The Pansy Blackjack are up and surprisingly well spaced out, I did try to be careful as I'm so bad at pricking out. When I'm here on my own after the family leave, I intend to sow quite a few things.

I've been pricking out my Foxgloves over the last week or so, whenever I've spotted a few getting big enough (grief that's a thankless task ) I've so far got 4 boxes of 6 & I've still got about eleventy billion seedlings left I also sowed some of my own Aquilegia seeds the other week and I've got 3 boxes of those pricked out... my neighbour only asked me for a couple of Fuchsia cuttings, but she admired the Foxgloves, so I have a cunning plan

I've put little clumps of my foxgloves around the garden, tiny, but I think they will be OK, 2 choices anyway, the aquilegia the same, and Sharon has taken osme of both, I sowed some lupins too some seedlings have popped up but, they don't look like lupins, we shall see what turns up.

I planted some foxgloves in the bed outside my office window back in spring and I noticed our lovely gardener/maintenance person had cut the seed spikes off the other day. He is sweet but I think they programme him, wind him up and send him out with shears and the lord help anything that is not moving and in the way!
