The ones I have are all a scabby sort of whitish colour But in a a nice way. Then again, all those photographed ones cost over a tenner, and I'd want at least three for that price.

No Susie it's a Corylopsis.............and I'm not going out in this weather to find out which variety!!! I said that I liked them but had no room for one so my Sister bought it for me one Christmas! I meant it when said I had no room. I had to get OH to dig out a big conifer and knock down an old shed to fit it in!!

Spotted these today, any idea what the second one is? It has prickly leaves a bit like mahonia, but for some reason I thought it was a berberis?? Sprawling habit, tends to be a bit leggy, one of those which just arrived in the garden from who knows where! x Tig Another narcissus which I don't know the name of And the ?? shrub thing

Well, the flowers certainly look like Berberis, but the leaves Whatever it is it's very pretty indeedy ;D . No doubt some of our learned members will be able to help out more S x

Hi Tig, your unknown plant is a Mahonia. If it is low growing, and spreads by underground runners, and is a devil to remove, it is probably Mahonia repens.

Thanks WT, I don't think it has spread anywhere - it has been growing for quite a while in the same spot, and I have one in the front garden too! I had a google for Mahonia repens and it grows about 1' tall, this one is about 2'?
PJ no sign of Queen of the Night yet then?

I have two types of mahonia, one with the long, dangly flowers and the other with tighter bunches just like yours. I don't think I kept the label though, but it is a mahonia. Try M x wagneri.
