I didn't expect to have buds quite so soon as it's under 18" tall. The buds look to be either pale yellow or cream. I actually bought it for the foliage, it's variagated, thought it would be a bonus if the flowers didn't appear

I dont think you should SS,I never have,i always get sideshoots comeing from the main stem, and they produce flowers, but then again,i have not grown from seed, only cuttings,do you not have any sideshoots? Hi FB! I do have many side shoots but wasn't sure if they would come away properly without pinching out the growth tip! I think I'll play safe and leave well alone for the time being Many thanks for your help! S x

Susie, I have the same predicament. I bought my plants from LIDL, and they are doing well, but only today I was contemplating cutting off the top. There are indications of side shoots in the axil of every leaf, but they aren't moving. I think I'll give it the chop. I always reckon that, in nature, some animal or other would have the top chomped off.

Sweetleaf (from the AF MB) gave me a large cutting last week (fully rooted)...it's got lots of leaves growing out of the stem but is only around 18" tall. Today I transplanted it into one of the potato tubs (after harvesting the taters )...now I sit back and wait. 'citing isn't it? ;D

No sign of flowers on mine yet - just loads of huge leaves which something is eating!! But I can't see any pests on it? Loads of side shoots growing.

Thanks fb - think mine is a triffid - it is only in 12" pot and is over 6' tall with several stems now! Heaven only knows what I am going to do with it in the winter I have been looking them up online, and some US sites reckon that they can be kept outside if the roots are protected from frost, I thought I might deep dig the pot into the ground - what do you think? I did that with one of mine last winter, just as an experiment, all the top died, and i thought the plant had,but in the spring i watered and fed it,and ickle green shoots started comeing out of the compost,so the roots had remained alive, now its about 4ft tall, and starting to bud,but its made it late,as my others, that i wintered in the shed, have been flowering since June,

I find that it is better to take pots into the workshop, summerhouse, unheated greenhouse ( not that I'm taking over the premises or anything!! ) as they come into growth and flower soooo much earlier than those left outside, even though we don't get frosts here. OH moans about tripping over pots everywhere, but I turn a deaf ear,as it's worth it in early summer when they all bloom! ;D

My Brugmansia has some beautiful flowers on it atm...it's in the (unheated) GH out of the frost, but what do I do with it over winter? do I trim it back? if so, how much? It's in a 20" pot. FB's the man for Brugs CPB, he has them and I'm sure he'll sort you out Saying that I don't reckon he comes over into Greenhouse Chat so I'll quote this message into the Brugmansia thread in Beds and Borders, he's posted on it so may have it Bookmarked

I had one for a few years, beautiful creamy flowers and the smell was divine. Always kept it outside the front of the house as we had the sun all day. Someone pinched it pot and all. Never replaced, but seeing these gorgeous pictures i think i will try again next year. We now live in a different area and have never lost a plant yet... fingers crossed.
