I had to plant mine in the ground earlier in the year - everything I had put in the garage froze solid! And there were signs of fungal growth on it - so it had a prune down to hard stem and was dug in (along with the remains of the nanas ) It has two chances eh FB? x Tig

I have them on my shopping list - don't know if I'll be able to get them in person or whether I'll have to buy them on line

Did anyone see the bit on GW about Brug cuttings. Never knew that they could be rooted in water or the bit about making sure you had a white dot on the stem because thats where the roots formed.

Is any one colour hardier than the others? Does any one colour grow better than the others?

I dont know about hardier,but my pink ones grow quicker and flower earlier than the yellow ones,but yellow have the best,and more powerful scent

I've tried to get new plants locally - to no avail They seem very expensive to buy on line - should I look for a specialist grower or use the usual on line catalogues and risk getting tiny plants?

FB a couple of questions please;
Whats the differance between Brugmansia and Datura ?
I've grown some surprise Daura from seed and they are now approx 8" tall and have small buds appearing - should I nip these out ?

|
|
Post by farmersboy on May 2, 2009 20:53:33 GMT
Having never grown Datura,Jean,i cant say about the buds,but they dont grow as tall as Brugs,or at least ive seen them in bloom at the GCs,and they have not been very tall,maybe they start to bloom at 8"
The difference is that the Datura trumpets point upwards,and the Brugs down

I have grown four Datura from seed this year (Ballerina Tutu) and from what I can find, also unlike Brugs, they like their roots dry and warm? FB don't Brugs appreciate loads of water and plenty of feed? I think I may have kept the datura a bit wet! I am trying to rectify the situation now .. we shall see. I'll start a Datura post on the Grow 2009 board .. we can compare notes x Tig

My yellow one is just coming into flower. The plant is 6 foot high at the moment and only has another 2 feet before it touches the conservatory roof !!!!

Sorry your Brug didnt make it Tig,some of mine got frosted,but the roots were alive,but having to shoot up from the bottom,instead of from the old stems, made them about 3 weeks later flowering,than last year
