I did the food shop this morning and on my way home I called into one of our local GC just for a look. I bought a Clematis Franziska Maria (it is just opening and the new flowers are purple with streaks of lime green in them, there is one older flower on it too and that has faded to pale lilac but is still stunning!) and Phlox Kirchenfuerst which is a dark, bright pink colour and smells gorgeous too! Don't know where they are going to go but I will deal with that when it stops raining! ;D

I forgot to mention that I also popped into our local Wyevale for the first time. Their plants looked a bit sorry for themselves - lots were battered and blown over but none of the staff seemed keen on picking them up and sorting them out. They had a HUGE reduced section which had a lot of half price clems in it. I wanted to scoop them all up and bring them home and nuture them back to health...but I was strong and I resisted! ;D

I have a wee tip for pots Barbara, though I never get round to doing it myself. If you line the pot with bubble wrap before filling, if the compost freezes and expands, the bubbles will burst, giving it more room. Though I've had a Camellia in a glazed pot for years, and it is still intact. Now, I've said that, it will fall apart this winter.

On my day out yesterday I bought a Ligularia Przewalskii (the Rocket) which is over 5ft high but only cost £5 which I thought was a bargin, it has 4 shoots coming from the bottom and the most georgous heart shaped leaves green with red veins and 2 beautiful yellow flower spikes which are scented, also bought 5 Oriental lily bulbs called Cobra which is dark Red with Yellow in the center and 5 called Shocking which are Yellow with Red in the center they should look very nice together, and the scents from the ones on show was georgous, I didnt get any Sweet Peas WT as David Mathewman was not there this time.

I ordered SP seeds from Matthewman today, how disappointing he wasn't there. But you got your lilies, that was good. That Ligularia is a great plant, and keep a look out when you are weeding, because it does self-seed now and again, so you may find little plantlets. Funnily enough, just an hour ago, my neighbour commented on mine, and I offered her a couple of plants. It was just getting dark and the flowers were shining out in the half-light. So you had a good day? As we say up here "It'll be back tae auld clathes and purridge noo"

I have been quite good recently. I have only bought: Heuchera which I bought at GW Live from the Barnsdale Garden stand. I can't remember the name of it but it has lovely small green leaves, which seem to go pink with age, and has georgeous bright pink flowers. I have also, finally, got the lily bulbs I have been wanting to get for about a year. It's not the greatest picture of them, but it will give you an idea: www.hwhyde.co.uk/flowers/lilies/asiatic/ebony.htm

i agree, when you think of the entrance fee, the cost of getting there, and the extra you pay for the plants, you could spend all that money at the local garden center , and have your own show.
