Fancied a little bit of HRT today and we took MiL out for some lunch - at the local GC ;D They had some garden pots on sale in a lovely shade of green - got 13 small ones and 2 big ones. Now all I need is something to put in them. Hmmm..... ;D

You should have filled them all by this evening Shrub Today I've bought a thermometer for my mini-growhouse, a tool-belt (Amos fault ), a dibber, two pieces of bamboo trellis to attach to the green arch for my climbers to enjoy, and a three foot tall ensete ventricosum Maurelii x Tig

Moi??? I've had a few little indulgences now and then, which has been nice, usually 'coz OH insists on treating me. (No you can't all meet his twin brother ) Today though I have bought two echiveras, a portolaca, a raoulia australis, a sagina subulata aurea, the most gawwwwjus Fuchsia magellanica var. molinae which I think has got to be one of the prettiest fuchsias ever, 4 pairs of my fave soft touch gloves (they are £9.99 at T&M at the moment!!!!!), some Echium candicans, an armillary and several pots a few of which I insisted on a reduction with due to the odd slight chip.

Blimey - you are the Queen of HRT, Amo ;D Numpty question alert - what is an 'armillary'?

|
|
Post by Weeterrier on Jun 19, 2008 8:30:31 GMT
Yes, what is an armillary? I've never had good gloves. In fact, I go down to the yard at the bottom of the hill, and retrieve the ones that the workmen discard. Sadly, they are usually just right hand ones, so it is a joy to make up a pair. ;D With most of the fingers intact.

I just cannot bear the feel of gardening gloves (or any other gloves for that matter). Just have to put up with "garden hands"

Maybe that's why I never splash out either NO. I wear gloves only for really rough jobs. Same with housework, it's red chapped hands for me there too.
Is there anyone else who cannot get the dirt out of their kneecaps? I scrub at them, but they always look grim.

;D I know I probably shouldn't but I have been know to kneel in warm water with bleach in it for a few minutes WT I also use neat bleach on my hands when they are gross and I have to go out - especially as my thumb and fingers are prone to cracking anyway these days and won't release the dirt even with Swarfega

I'm 50/50 with the gloves thing. We have lots of jobs that need them, huge hedge with lots of Berberis and rose for a start, 3 cats and we also have a lot of flints that can be ferociously sharp. The Soft Touch are really lovely to work with and go in the washing machine. I've been using mine for slab laying though and they are both starting to go. Also daughter uses them, hence 2 pairs at a time!! Amillary is one of those sun dial thingys in a globe shape. Don't know where it's going yet...

Now I know what you're talking about Amo And Berberis. Lethal. Tig, I laugh at programmes when they talk about skincare. If they only knew what some of us get up to. Must try the bleach on the knees tip. Perhaps Ajax would work too, it would certainly remove a few skin cells. ;D Perhaps I should have some 'before and after' pics.

Don't you use Ajax before fake tan to exfoliate Wee? I had a 2cm berberis thorn go down the side of my little finger nail once. The doctor wouldn't touch it and told me to lay off it for as long as possible and once it had a good head of puss to take the top off and it would float out. Well it did but I don't intend to do that again and we now have the very beautiful , but lethal, one with thorns about three inches long. Pass the gloves please........ Also as this is the summer I am determined to wear shorts through out I need all the tips possible for grimey knees. And grubby toe nails apart from nail polish. I already use that but they still look.... well used. ;D ;D

I also hate wearing gloves and never used to - but I have been told that I must now wear gloves for gardening and household chores since I had some lymph nodes removed from under my arm. I do if I remember I have been to B&Q again and the sale area of the GC!

You keep wearing the gloves Amo. Once bitten by a Berberis, is most certainly twice shy. I worked in a nursery once, where we had to propagate them, and pot them on until they were in 2L pots ready to go to the wholesale distributors. There were only three of us, and when the time came for Berberis, it was out with the thick leather gloves. It is really painful when a little bit finds its way down your trousers and ends up in your knickers. TCL, glad to hear you're still on your missions of mercy. ;D

Goodness me, Berberis thorns in you pants doesn't bear thinking about WT I am useless with gloves, all fingers and thumbs so to speak, I wish I could get on with them 'cos my hands are always a mess Anyway back to purchases ;D I have 15 new packs of seeds today (thanks to however reminded us that Wilkies had reduced them to half price ) 7 types of courgettes , more parnips, cucumber and The Kelsae exhibition onion seeds, the rest are flowers (including Cerinthe major purpurascens - you know who you are ), oh and the last one is some Dwarf Beans that look black - I've planted a couple of rows of them already as it said they can be sown up to end of July x Tig
