Thanks RF - what an interesting read. I wondered why milk didn't encourage other nasties to grow and it says it does if you use it in a bigger concentrate than 30%. Think I'll stick to the 1:9 - may even give the courgettes a spray too!

Thanks Jasmine, I've learned a lot this year about what I should and should'nt be growing, or trying to grow. Hope the milk solution works for you.

It is pretty bad when you are stronger than the tools you are trying to use!
Frustrating, too.

Good thinking. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/wink.gif It was getting on well, but Mark tripped over and fell backwards on Thursday, so he stayed at home resting yesterday. He said his back hurt. Let's hope that a long w/end helps. A second load of stone should arrive on Monday. OH has a job to do next - Mark left a gap where the niche is going - for access to both sides of the wall - but he wants to start building there, so the side fence will need temporary modifications.

My whinge is about Crocus. They are normally an excellent mail-order company, but I messed up an order I sent on Friday evening. At least, I think it was my fault - but the website wouldn't let me alter the order summary when I noticed it was incorrect, and two orders had gone in within two minutes of each other. I sent an immediate message to customer services with the correct order...and rang Crocus the next morning. I was told that customer services were closed until Monday, but that I'd done the right thing and they'd sort it out. Did they? Nope. I had an email yesterday morning to say the two orders had to stand - they couldn't 'merge' them. I'm really annoyed, because I'll get ONE delivery with two boxes, but I'll have to pay two delivery charges! i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/angry.gif I'm not letting this go - I sent a polite but firm message telling them that I wanted their Manager to get it sorted!

That isn't very good customer services Geranium, even if you think it was an error on your part. P & P is expensive enough, I always add it to what the plants will cost me and have not ordered on occasions when I thought it was too much to pay for what I wanted. If they want to continue to keep their customers (we are in a recession and would have thought they would be grateful for any order!) they should be making more of an effort. I expect they'll blame their online ordering system and say it can't be changed once the customer has accepted the electronic invoice x Tig

The boxes all arrived at once yesterday, so morally I'm in the right. No message back from them, so I'll ring them today.
I can't fault the speed though, can I?

I agree, sometimes the P&P just make plants too expensive. I can't remember how much but I paid a large sum of money to David Austin to get the rose called Grace. It was difficult to find a supplier who would post to here. Crocus won't post to N.I. and I've had words with them about it but to no avail. Geranium, I think you should keep at them. Good luck, let us know how you get on.

I am starting to get bloody annoyed with T & M - all these fantastic offers and I can take part in them. Why isn't it possible to send me Lily bulbs then...years ago I got some Begonia corms - now only seeds are sent!! I can understand plants, but tubers and bulbs etc...silly!!

I don't blame you - is it EU rules stopping them? (There isn't an emoticon for 'snort'! : My whinge is about a full page advert in the AG magazine - talk about misleading! 1. It's a photo of a beautiful mature flowering tree called a 'Chinese Redbud' which is apparently 'rare, beautiful and superb value'. 2. The price quoted in large print is £7.49 - if you buy two. 3. Then you google to find out what on earth a Chinese Redbud is, and it's a Cercis. 4. Then you read the teeny print - and it's in a 9 cm pot! 5. Then you read that actually, there's p& p on top so it's an extra £5.99 - and anyway, one costs £9.99. I am ashamed of AG magazine printing an advert like that. Anyone who fell for it would get a teeny little plant that would need cossetting and repotting for years before it was big enough to be planted out...and even more years to get to flowering size!

RF Rosefriend they're the same with me, don't get me started. They will send to me but charge an arm and a leg to do it making it not worth my while as it would work out so expensive. I've emailed them time and time again and explained that Royal Mail will charge the same price as to anywhere else in the UK but they will not listen.

I noticed that advert Geranium. Must've been in the AG Auricula sent me. I thought Chinese Redbud was Cercis but wondered why they weren't using it's real name. Was it a T&M offer?

If T & M are blaming EU rules they are wrong. You are allowed to send plants and bulbs EU wide. I have brought lots of bulbs, plants and seeds in suitcases through customs and they have never been questioned.

No, Jasmine, not this time. It's a firm I've never heard of called 'Yougarden'. They appear to be based in Market Deeping. I think I might look at their website and see if they have any 'feedback' facilities.

You'd think a gardening mag would encourage the use of proper names wouldn't you Perhaps Cercis didn't sound rare enough to be charging £9.99! I find it funny when some Ebayers call a snowdrop 'rare' and you think - no it's not - I've got lots!!!

I was at a local allotment on Saturday. A new one. Small. There was a willow fence workshop on so I went for a looksee and see how it was. Great fun. Very educational. There was the first bit of heat in the sun this year.
I stopped off in a supermarket on the way home and at another community garden.
On sunday I couldn't find my favourite pitchfork, which I had brought to the willow fence workshop. Went to the Supermarket, but no one had seen it nor had it been handed in. GRRRRRRR
I am off for a few days tomorrow, so I won't be able to check at the second garden till Saturday week, it's open once a week during the winter....I suppose I could scale the fence next Monday.
I'm SO mad!!!!! I've a feeling I put it down to lock my bicycle and walked away. I was hoping I'd brought it into the shop and left it at the self service till.
rats to it anyway....it was really handy. Long handle too, you know?

I know I wrote somewhere about getting in touch with J. Parker about the tulip bulbs they sent having tulip fire. The denied it had anything to do with tulip fire and said the damage was most likely caused by hailstones and or slugs. I sent them a picture of the damaged tulips which I destroyed along with the compost and told them we did'nt have any hailstones and it certainly was'nt slugs as I would have seen some evidence of this in the pots. They have now, eventually refunded my money and apologised.

I should hope so too! A huge company like them shouldn't quibble about a few tulips!

What a load of old rubbish excuse - hailstones and slugs that just targeted some of their tulips
