Actually got some reaction from T & M yesterday. A letter to say they could not supply one of the Clems, with a refund for the cost, and £5 voucher that actually says "We're sorry and hope you'll give us another chance". How desperate does that sound??

I have many times envied you all being able to get plants from T & M etc....I am just beginning to wonder if my envy was misplaced.

They always were, and still are as far as I know, very good for seeds, if a tad expensive But when they moved into selling plants, they are outsourcing from growers in the Channel islands, just like every other company selling mail-order plants. And they are still more expensive than others - for the same stuff!!

I like to stick to what companies do best, and have based that on experience over the years. There are so many specialist companies , especially now with the internet, whose livelihood depends on sending out top quality plants. They may be a bit more expensive, but the price is worth it. Have we got a thread dedicated to recommended companies? Having said that, many of the plants from CROCUS come from smaller nurseries, I have found a few of them from labels on the pots, very handy, as it opens the door to new possibilities.

In some instances pictures speak louder than words ... what I found this morning on sprouts, cabbage, kohl rabi, broccoli - I have done a lot of squishing - thats all I'm saying on the subject

Following on from Tig's caterpillas, i've just identified a beast that is crucifying my Willows. I have had this small irridescent black/blue beetle on my salix alba chermesina and huge weeping willow for the past few years. But this year, they're out in force and eating everything. Apparently, it's called willow leaf beetle and it can kill the plant. I can't spray because the weeping willow is huge and the others are over the pond. Apparently, it can, and often will, kill the willows.

You should all move up here. I haven't seen a caterpillar for years. We hardly have any awful bugs.

A letter to say they could not supply one of the Clems, with a refund for the cost, and £5 voucher that actually says "We're sorry and hope you'll give us another chance". How desperate does that sound?? Had another letter from T&M today, re the other clematis I have been waiting forever for. They say it will be delivered in September and apologise for any inconvenience. INCONVENIENCE!!?? The damn thing was ordered (and paid for) in September 2007!!!!! A year from order to delivery (if it happens!)!! That's not inconvenience!! That's absolutely disgraceful service!!! That's taking the PI22!!! They even had the nerve to wish me Happy Gardening!! Fank yew - I feel better now PS - Ooh Tig, I couldn't squish a caterpillar!! PPS - Can't wait to see your new best friend Wee

Too right P, super-snotty letter already in the post , as they have chosen to completely ignore my last 3 angry emails!! Unbelievably bad customer service! (Oh god, I'm turning into Victor Melgrew!) I'm sure they never used to be like that

Well done you, and it's not Victor Meldrew-ish at all. To have your money for a year and just apologise for the inconvenience - how dare they? If they didn't grow enough or source enough plants they should have had the decency to let you know and NOT hang on to your money. I look forward to hearing how they reply! ;D

Another moan about T & M....... The lady I help with the hedgehogs, thought she would get a little gift for all her helpers for easter. She ordered some White Egret Orchid tubers in early Febuary, after a few months of nothing she contacted them,, they apologised said they would be with her shortly. She contacted them again a month later, easter having come and gone, again an apology and sent her some carnations. Another month, another apology. They finally arrived on Tuesday. She's cross, because of the delay, and now they are on special, she paid full price for them. But she did get a £5 voucher for her next order, HA HA!! I'm delighted with my surprise, but I didnt realise they were biennial, cos on the bottom of the instructions it says they flower in summer, guess it must be next summer............

Before I saw that one I didn't think they could self-seed, TCL I thought they were half-hardy

I've got a whinge - who steals a dustpan and brush out of a garden for heaven's sake. Our back gate was open and although we rarely leave much laying about the dustpan and brush was missing from it's usual place.
After looking everywhere, we have come to the conclusion that someone must have nicked it. A neighbour is missing a bucket she says.....

I have no idea what invaded my veg plot last night!!! I am still fuming - summat dug holes - deep holes - at least 6" down It wasn't a cat (no poops found), and the soil is light and there were no sunken footprints - any ideas?? I might have to put some contorted hazel twigs over the bed tonight. x Tig
