Don't think it was a fox PJ, I would have expected to see footprints if they were about - I have a blackbird that digs holes to get at the ants, but these were too deep and the soil was neatly scattered behind the cavity, so definitely something with paws I would have thought?

You will have to set up a watch. I have found burrowing in my raised bed before and I wasn't sure what it was either, but the holes were deep passages. I never found out what it was - I just filled the holes in and it never happened again.

They seem to have completely lost the plot MM I wonder how big my missing clem would have been by now if I'd got it last Sept I did suggest, in one of my ignored emails to them, that when (IF!!) they eventually send it to me, they should substitute one a year older (and bigger!!) I finally got my Clematis Flammula from T&M . I have to admit it's nice and healthy looking, but hardly worth a 10-month wait for!

Now that is a possible Andy! Although I didn't find any nuts buried when I dug that bed, and there were none in the holes? Maybe it was just practising for Autumn NO that is pants compared to what I got from Crocus in just a few days!! That is two suppliers I won't be bothering ordering from! x Tig

I am no expert on Clematis but it just looks like a Cutting that has just 'struck' or 1 year old--shame on them! I wonder what Plocket makes of that one--

Was cutting the grass and got bitten by, I think, a horsefly. My arm has swelled up and hurts like stink! And it's bloomin' itchy too

I hate horsefly bites - they really hurt and draw blood...
I am laughing now but I was damned annoyed earlier. Basically it is my own fault because I forgot to pinch my runner beans off and they got too high. As my OH is away at the moment, I am having to get the beans myself, which isn't easy as the step ladder on the gravel isn't very stable and they are just too high..being a short a#se myself, of course.
Anyway I started today with a brilliant idea - get the tree lopper thingy and cut the beans off and just let them fall - hah - yep, you cut the stems as well....back to the step ladder. Right I get up three steps wobbling away and just remembered not to cling to the obelisk before I fell off - twice. Anyway I finally managed to get all the beans off when I noticed that a neighbour from across the road was watching my antics......I can't say what I thought in that minute as it is against our C & C!!
This man is a 6 footer and around 40 or so I guess - he just could have helped me, couldn't he. Anyway I started having a broggle in a spud tub and got some lovely ones out when I heard a voice saying how nice the spuds were and it looked as though I had problems getting my beans. He didn't like beans he said. Oh - I thought - bet you like spuds though...
So I made a trade - he can have some spuds if he helps me get my beans next time. He also says that he likes tomatoes as well...oh dear!!

Tell him how easy it is to grow them and offer to show him....mean bu**er...fancy standing and watching you struggle and not offering to help

That happened to me last year RF (the beans growing too tall, not falling off a stepladder!). The most annoying thing was, instead of growing towards the light and dangling down the front of the wigwams, they took off backwards over the fence to the neighbours!

Oh Shrub Horsefly bites are really nasty, nearly always become infected You may need to go to A & E if it continues to swell, they can cause blood poisoning!! I think that bloke across the road took a fancy to you RF, and was watching you in an 'admiring that woman balancing (well almost) on a ladder' type way I'd be careful it isn't just the spuds and toms he's after (IYKWIM ) x Tig

Tell him how easy it is to grow them and offer to show him....mean bu**er...fancy standing and watching you struggle and not offering to help I must admit that it annoyed me very much - I can't abide people that don't help if someone is struggling with something. That happened to me last year RF (the beans growing too tall, not falling off a stepladder!). The most annoying thing was, instead of growing towards the light and dangling down the front of the wigwams, they took off backwards over the fence to the neighbours! Mine are doing that to a degree as the sun goes around. However the neighbour doesn't mind me going into his garden but he has a border just where I need to put the ladder - doesn't help me at all. I think that bloke across the road took a fancy to you RF, and was watching you in an 'admiring that woman balancing (well almost) on a ladder' type way I'd be careful it isn't just the spuds and toms he's after (IYKWIM ) x Tig Well he can fancy all he likes Tig - far too wet behind the ears for me - prefer older men, and he is 35 - or so I was told about an hour later. Nah - no thanks - will stick with what I have.... Also my neighbour is coming back from work soon and he will do it for me for nothing....might give him some toms if he would mow the lawn for me though. RF

One of the zips has broken today on the front cover of my mini-growhouse - I've only had it a few months Will have to use duck tape - can't think of any other solution!

Now that is a very sensible suggestion, but it would be a tad difficult Barbara - because it is full to bursting with toms, gherkins and cucumbers which are all tied into the frame! x Tig

I think it's a common problem Tig. Same thing happened to one I had many moons ago, and one that my sister had. We resorted to 'sticking plasters' too

Having spent an age getting the other side of the zip re-attached, then only to find the clasp disintegrate in my fingers It is now beautifully repaired with duck tape - and with careful management and renewal as required should last me quite a while longer ;D x Tig

It is a bugger isn't it - one of mine has ripped along the zip although the zip is still in tact.
My OH stuck it with tape and stapled it together - it is still OK after 6 months.

I found some self-adhesive velcro I had left from a presentation ages ago - but didn't think it would be strong enough to hold it together - I will look for replacements covers, I think mrh bought one at a reasonable price earlier in the year, although I have yet to see any! The online costs when you add p & p is nearly the same as being another complete unit

Just been and planted in my Fond Memories Clem I had for my birthday - somehow I managed to snap the new growth off the top my way down the garden Anyway I have come to read up on Plockets advice on propagation - I'm determined to grow some cuttings from what has snapped off to make myself feel better ... Off to do the deed - back later! x Tig

The deed is done, all I can do is wait and see if they strike, but at least I feel better for trying to rescue the situation Managed to knock a piece off the Multiblue as well, so I have stuck that in as a cutting too. I have succeeded in getting a piece of Ville de Lyon growing, so who knows they may do OK x Tig
