I'm glad other's are finding T&M pains in the proverbial. RHS endorsed or not, they are c**p! Trading standards should be told NO. Tigs, looks like rat holes. They will dig temporary burrows for a while then move on. you want to borrow my terrorist? RF, really! All those neighbours at your beck and call! What exactly are you putting on your veg? My cover has died on my little greenhouse too and the cover prices vary so much. I'm just thinking of using the staging without the cover as part of the nursery area for storing 'those that must be planted' anyway. Until I find a good priced cover that is.

We've come back to a mole. I'm not too bothered at the moment as it's at the top but Tully (the aforementioned terrorist) is now on a mission. Hopefully she might of scared it back into the field or next door but any slight mound of dirt and she has to now investigate.

I have had a feeling that there was a wasps' nest in our shed all summer (something to do with the amount of wasps in the shed all the time was a big clue but OH said it was because of the apple tree just by the shed : . Anyway, we have guests staying and Jessie dog does clack up and down the landing during the night (doggie toenails on wooden floors!) so I thought I would get the roll of carpet out of the shed and lay it down while our guests were here. I found the nest as I unrolled the 2 bits of carpet! After squirting the nest with wasp killer and leaving the shed very fast I have decided Jess will have to just clack her way up and down the landing tonight! ;D

Oh Tig. I had the same one happening at MssK this friday. Lost the tallest yellow one but at least it found a new home with her. The Jeruzalem artichokes came over too. Had a buggr of a time getting them back up and some had snapped completely. I hope it does not harm my harvest but it sure looks a mess

Sorry to hear you had similar probs Dutchy, we are due more wind and rain tomorrow, but there isn't much left standing to blow over now! Thanks for that tip FB - If I manage to overwinter the 'giant' brug I will bury it, although at 7' tall I think it would still blow over x Tig

Poor Tig, sorry to hear about the destruction in your garden. Hope all is calmer now. When the wind broke off some of my cosmos stems and sunflowers I just chuck them into tall heavy vases. ;D Nothing goes to waste. ;D

Absolutely fb - green, then yellow, then pinkish, then peachy, and when they are ready to fall almost tangerine And they smell divine Something has been eating them all season though - and I have no idea what? I wouldn't have bothered with them tbh - didn't think I would get a decent plant if we had a poor summer But you inspired me and I'm glad you did That is what gardening is all about - just having a go! x Tig

Post by Tig on Oct 9, 2008 9:34:38 GMT
Yes, you can see the holes in the leaves in the piccie fb - I have never spotted any caterpillars, but then I don't wear my specs in the garden If I manage to get it through the winter I will watch more closely next year. I have some Datura seeds to sow in spring - I may become a Datumaniac ;D

This is a tiddy whinge My neighbour is opening her garden tomorrow - why?? It is supposed to be an organic plot?? OK - no probs, except ... oh I can't go on Anyway - I get a phone call tonight - have I anything for a seed / plant swap? Who advised her to do this, she is getting on in years (80 odd widow) - someone is taking advantage methinks I am worrying that she has no idea what she's let herself in for! Had to tell her to remove the Open Garden sign from her gate tonight - otherwise she would get some unwelcome visitors on the way home from the pub! <sigh> Tig

It took me a while to find this thread but I wanted a 'garden' whinge - but not about my garden! The man who rents out a bungalow across the road from me has just had someone come and remove all the shrubs from his front border and filled it with gravel - it has gone from a little green oasis to a desert in an hour!! I know it is none of my business, but there were some quite attractive slow growing evergreens and some small deciduous shrubs in it - now they are all lying in the back of his lorry! x Tig

It was the bloke who owns it who got the workmen in Carolann. Last lot of tennants moved out just before New Year - perhaps he is going to sell it, but to my mind it looked a lot better with the shrubs, although if folk don't like gardening ( : I suppose it is maintenance free now! Thanks for the hug x Tig

They have all gone RF - I did think about going across and offering to rehome a few, but it was a big bloke doing the work and he wasn't a gardener, more of a demolition expert - it was a plant massacre
