I'm signing up to do this in July, but I will be walking. Is anyone else going to do it?

I've not seen it advertised here either but my friend runs it every year so must have heard because of that. It's taking place at Shugborough and I was officially registered yesterday

I think that's for me KL, but I'm going to try walking first! ;D It's only three miles (so my friend tells me) so I should be able to manage that.

I'm signing up to do this in July, but I will be walking. Is anyone else going to do it? Good on ya P I did it quite a few years ago at Nottingham. I initially said I'll have to walk it, could never see myself running or jogging all that way. They send you a pack with info on pre race training I followed the basics of it and was encouraged by my nephew who came out training with me. On the day I was well chuffed with myself, I walked the up hill bits, jogged a bit then walked if I felt the stitch coming on, then jogged then walked etc etc and when I could see the finish line I ran the last bit. Fab feeling when you've done it ;D very satisfying. Good luck

Thanks Chuckles! I'm not going to do any training except for my usual walking around every day. And there's no way I'm jogging (jooging?) or even running because I'm just not built for it! ;D

I signed up of Race for Life about 6 weeks ago. I am doing it with a friend of mine and her friends, one of whom has a small daughter. We will not be jogging but probably walking. Our "Race" is taking place on Hampstead Heath so it should be enjoyable. Still to buy the t-shirt - can't bear to choose the size, as I still can't believe how large I am now. PJ

Good luck Plocket!! My massage lady, the one who runs 4 miles every morning with the dogs before the school run , did it last year. I thought she was mad but she cycled from Christchurch to the Lymington ferry, about 10 miles, ferry over to Yarmouth, the Isle of Wight was the only race left she could enter. She then cycled from Yarmouth to Newport, another 10 miles, did her run then cycled to The Needles to have lunch with her family, another 15 miles then she cycled all the way back home!! I told her she should of had sponsorship just for the journey!

Heavens! There's no way I could manage anything like that! I'm already worrying because a friend of mine who has done it before says there's an uphill bit! Anyway I've got my pack now and I'm number 1101 - so I won't be alone!!! ;D

I've got my T-shirt now Plocket. I bought it from JJB Sports - it is a bright pink colour with a sparkly motif. I didn't want to buy online as I like to see what I am buying.
I doing my "race" in early June. It should be doing it in Hampstead Heath.

I started my exercise regime this morning (about time too!) and did a mile walk while LP was at ballet. I'm intending to increase it to 3 miles three times a week as a general fitness regime, as well as being able to do the Race for Life. That should be reasonably good shouldn't it? It's all part of the new healthier and fitter me - well the new me that I'm striving for anyway ;D

My Race for Life took place in Hampstead Heath yesterday. I was with the many women in the "walking" group. There must haver been over 3,00 women took part. We did a short warm up and the "race" of 5 km took just over an hour. It was an extremely hot day (about 28 degrees c) and my friends and I had about 2 km walk to starting line from the station. The heath was a very pleasant place to have the race. Some hills and some lovely cool places under the shade of very old trees. It was great fun and I got my medal and goody bag at the end.

Fantastic PJ - it sounds as though you really enjoyed yourself. I'm worried about the heat and hope it isn't too hot when I do my R4L. I'll take water with me though. I bet you feel very proud of yourself, and being able to raise some money for such a worthwhile cause.

Hi Plocket
You will need to take a bottle of water with you. I put mine in the fridge the night before. I also made myself a sandwich to eat after the race. One thing I regret is not wearing a sun hat. I wasn't going to take a baseball cap as I look too silly in them.
Yo do get a bottle of water in your goody bag at the end of the race. Also in the bag was apple crisps which were delicious and a small carton of juice. And sun cream and a body spray. The bag was purple too but it has a Tesco logo on so I don't think I'll be using it.
Good luck your race. Look forward to you hearing how you got on.

I'm starting to worry about how I'm going to carry all the stuff I think I'll need: water, sun hat (if I need one - our race doesn't start until 7.30pm), phone and earphones (for listening to the radio when I'm left behind by my friends!), car keys. There's no way I'm going to want to take a ruck-sack! That's a good tip about the sandwich though - I was wondering when I was going to eat and I wouldn't want anything before the race. And I'll be hungry afterwards! What time did your race start btw? I'm really looking forward to it now. I hope the hill in our race isn't too steep though!

Hi Plocket The race itself started at 11 am, but we arrived there around 10 am and had a warm up at 10.30. I must say it was a pain having to carry all the extra bits like spare top if it gets cold, phone, water and snacks. I carried it all in a small rucksack and I had a very small shoulder bag too. Today it was my arms and shoulders that hurt - my legs were fine but it was carrying all the weight on my shoulders. I wish I had been able to offload some stuff before the race. My OH was going cycle racing and my sister thought it would be boring to watch. So my advice is carry as little as possible. Good luck on the day. Look forward to hearing how you got on. PJ
