Oh my word N.O. they're prolific are'nt they. Well done, you'll get a great harvest all being well.
Now I wonder what's happening with mine folks, any advice would be welcome. The leaves this year are huge but there are only a few fruits underneath them all. I'm worried they're not even getting light to them with the leaves being so big.

Just chop some of the leaves off LG I do it with mine as some of their leaves are masive, at the end of the season just cut all the leaves off and you should have lots of flowers next year.

Are they tasty, juicy and sweet NO?
I think the ones you get from supermarkets these days are rubbish! They may be red but they are hard and tasteless!! I heard on the news that they reckon folk aren't buying them because of the credit crunch, well they are wrong! Grow some that taste decent and I may buy a few more, otherwise I'll stick to bananas!! (OK rant over - back in me box now ;D)

Thanks for the advice Carolann and Nightowl. I'll take a good few leaves off this morning and hope for a good crop this year. You are so right Tig in most cases they just don't taste sweet. Surprisingly my Daughter got some market garden ones from Tesco a couple of weeks ago for me and they were'nt bad at all 'tho.

I have just shared the first strawberry with my OH - from the PC I saw a blackbird eyeing it up and dived out in the rain to rescue it.....oooo what a fantastic taste!!!

Taking my strawberry pots into the greenhouse in January gives me early delicious berries but it does mean one thing ..... They are all gone now ......

Ooo that's bad planning Mowhay - next year you will have to have more strawberries and do 50/50 - early and late.

Yes you are right RF but I always think I can get another pot in the GH , next year will leave some outside and then take spent plants out of GH and put others in, cos the bl**dy blackbird nicks them if you let him ...

I have bought some netting - the smallest bit I could get and far too big for the pot but I think after tasting the one strawberry this morning that there might just be a couple more pots next year, and then I should have just the right amount of netting .....how's that for woman's logic then!!!

Excellent Rf, glad you've had such success with your strawberries. Mowhay at least you've had some, I'm beginning to think all I'm going to get this year are a few late ones.

I picked a beauty off the front border day before yesterday, and shared it with OH, no sugar required it was sooo sweet. Lots more nearly ready - today all gone! Blackbirds found them! Glad that we had one!

I have those little forest ones at MssK and any one who can grow those should, they are miles sweeter than the normal ones we have. Mind you they do keep you distracted from the serious work in the garden....

Well I've gotten rid of a lot of the old leaves on mine to let some light and air in and given them a good feed with liquid tomato food. I think what I did wrong was not to cut back the growth last year. Anyhow they're repaying me by producing flowers and after all it's a learning experience. I looked at last years threads and Ihad my first strawberries at the end of june but most of them july and august. ;D

I have just had a look at my strawberries and they are sending runners (is that what they are called) all over the place - well I don't want any new plants - can I just cut them off??
