I would cut them all off RF so the plants put the energy into the fruits and not the runners ( yes correct term ). I also give them a good hard trim when fruiting is finished and they grow new fresh leaves ( I think Mr T advised this?). Have you got loads of berries?

Thanks Mowhay - I have had perhaps 10 strawberries off the plants up to now and there aren't any new flowers at all...I had hoped that I would get some later or isn't that the case??

Are they new plants RF or are they old plants as apparently they fruit better after the first year but do get "tired" after 4 or 5 years so I'm told. Mine are three and two years and produced bucket fulls of "licious" strawbs.

Sorry RF had forgotten the earlier posts.
As you don't want any new plants I would cut off the runners and as they are in a container continue to water, you could feed once a week with tomato food as it may tempt them to flower again but you may need to wait till next year now ..... but they are worth waiting for I can guarantee that

RF if you cut all the leaves off your plants and water and feed once a week you just may get a late crop of fruit, I did that last year and had a few fruits later on.

Oo lovely Carolann - thanks for the tip. I have to admit that I have never tasted strawberries like them.

Well cutting back the foliage seems to have made a good impact on my lot. When we got back Hannah (little grandaughter) picked the one and only red strawberry but it's a start and I've a good lot of flowers now too. ;D

Dumped all my plants in the chicken run yesterday, 2 hanging baskets, 2 half circle planters and 2 of those plastic troughs. I've had some of the plants for several maybe even 5 years now and I've rooted runners each year as well. There were 28 plants in total and I've eaten strawberries almost everyday in the garden for and weeks weeks, they have never reached the table ;D

But if they were doing so well why have you dumped them Chuckles? I don't understand.

But if they were doing so well why have you dumped them Chuckles? I don't understand. Mainly because they have started to go over LG and I'm also trying to be a bit more organised and tidy and not have so much stuff to over winter. I'll buy a few new plants next year and probably start the whole process over again ;D
