Lots of penstemons have an identity crisis - there are so many which are very similar, and different breeders call them different names. I solve the problem by having as many penstemons as I can, so I'm bound to have them all eventually ;D ;D

I've just found 6 I've never heard of ;D
Hayloft are doing an offer on the back of the gardening section in today's Telegraph - 6 plants for £15. They're called Pensham Skies which is a lilac colour, Freshwater Pearl which is a pale pinky lilac colour, Marilyn which is bright pink with a white throat, Louise Wilson which is white, St James which is reddy pink and Ted Purple which is a deep purple. They all look lovely..... ;D
It says Six New Pensham Penstemon Variaties breed exclusively for Hayloft - how's a girl to keep up? ;D

Well, I ordered them - delivery in April 2010 so I don't have to look after them over winter which is good.

I hadn't thought of it like that - I'm living for spring at the moment. Does anyone grow the ice-cream series of penstemons? I think you do Auricula but the Cornish climate may suit them really well. I just don't seem to be able to get them through winter whereas other penstemons don't seem to mind the cold and frost. Does anyone else have this problem - or maybe I'm just doing something wrong with them.

I have the ice cream collection which i got from Hayloft Jas.You will see one or two on my garden thread, Funnily enough the raspberry ripple didnt flower this year. Can they come up differant colour to their original or maybe i have have lost that one. I have so many in my boarder i have lost count which is which.

I don't know about them changing colour SO I've only got/had strawberries and cream and juicy grape and have had no luck getting either of them through a winter. I wonder what happened to your raspberry ripple - I like the colour of that one too.

I do like penstemons but they do tend to take over the border dont they!! mine are looking more and more like shrubs. Im going to have to look at members gardens and see how they manage theirs.

I've got one that has taken over - Hidcote Pink I think. It was little tiny plant from a school plant sale years ago Got my Juicy Grape plant off Ebay this morning. It is going to be pampered to within an inch of its life over winter.

Very seasonal, I have my christmas backdrop here on GW too. I have to say I'm fast becoming a fan of Penstemon myself thanks to you and Auricula, I keep looking them up and finding these lovely colours. They do seem to have a long flowering time too, pity they don't have a scent.

It is a shame but they have so much else going for them - not least that slugs and bunnies don't like them.

Very true LG ;D I have this brilliant little book about gardening with bunnies and it appears no one is really sure why they eat some plants and leave others completely alone. I'm glad they leave penstemons alone.
