RF I had that happen to me last year. Some <bleeping bleepers> saw fit to pull the heads off various different plants in my front garden. I wouldn't have minded so much if they'd kept them but I found them strewn on the road about 100 yards from my house. Simple, wanton vandalism. If I'd have seen them do it, I'd have ripped their heads off FA x

I've got a spot in my front garden where plants get beheaded. I tend to leave things like Nigella and other annuals and rampant perennials to get on with it on their own, and make sure I don't plant any of my favourites there.

I do feel sorry for those of you subjected to mindless acts of horticultural vandalism. At the bottom of our hill towards town there is a small town house front garden, say 15 x 15 foot max. It is a cottage garden joy to behold.
There is currently a sign up, saying "On seeing the wanton mindless destruction of plants in this garden, my mother suffered another stroke blah blah blah".
On a different note.....we were in the local Botanical gardens today. Fabulous! Three youths (rough types) cycled towards us and as they got level, I thoroughly expected abuse....then one of them said to his mates....."those flowers look gorgeous".......
....and he wasn't even been sarcastic. Made my day!

There was a lovely display of daffs nearby in the spring and some a*******s decided they'd look better without heads.......oooooh, if I could've got my hands on them!!!

Well who ever it was seems to have broadened their field - there was a bit in the paper today that a load of plants have been stolen from graves in the village cemetery here.
German graves are like little gardens - a lot of thought and money goes into planting them with flowers and shrubs.
I would still like to catch the so and so that took my roses though and I am watching like a hawk as another rose is about to flower, rain willing.

I served two young lads yesterday buying growbags and some veg and so I asked them what they were growing expecting them to say it wasn't for them. They told me about all the stuff they were planning to grow and seemed really excited about growing it. They paid with some vouchers and when I explained they were getting vouchers back they said that was fine cos they could buy another growbag.... I was stunned LOL

I went to work yesterday and the plant delivery arrived at about 8am. There were 18 trollies to unload from the lorry - I told our 2 garden centre managers ( so -called -one is aged 21 and the other one 30). So who was left in the pouring rain to do it all by herself -me ( aged 61) I really would have appreciated a bit of help but I suppose they didn't want to get wet

Talking of mindless violence..... The house across from me has been empty for about 26 years. It was only built about 40 years ago. How someone can keep a house like that derelict while there are people crying out for family houses in the SE is beyond me. The family next door has been approached loads of times over the years to ask the bloke to sell [he pops back occasionally to sweep up the mountain of junk mail] , but he just isn't interested. Anyway, the local youths up til recently have just hung around on the corner, but they have now decided to start smashing windows. I approached them today 'cos they were going round the garden, but with 3 small children to watch on the green I feel a bit useless. The next door neighbour called the police - again - but they can't do much. I feel so sorry for him, he is at the end of his tether. He has mowed the lawn and cleared junk to try and keep appearances up for years, but now he is worried about stray bricks on his cars and house windows. So my whinge is about the idiots who think it is funny to destroy a property for a laugh , and the idiot who is making my neighbours life a misery by abandoning the house and leaving it in an unlived in state attached to his.

Oh Isabella, that's disgraceful! You know you really should have kicked up hell and demanded some help, but it's a pride thing isn't it? Plus, it doesn't help that you are technically over retiring age and don't want to give them any excuse to say you're past it. But that is really not on!! That's all you get these days. Little spotty wet-behind-the-ears "managers" who couldn't manage a p*ss up in a brewery! And there's nothing we can do about them. They are the future, God help us!!! Keep your pecker up Isabella, and think of Aprilaydee's two keen young gardeners

I totally hate hate hate it when empty houses get run down...we have an industrial estate nearby, and when the units are unoccupied they are still watched over by security, but if a house on the local estate is empty for any length of time..it's left to the local residents to keep an eye out and call the police if anything untowards happens. Having 2 lads it was a nightmare keeping them out of trouble and occupied when they were in their teens, letting them out with their friends knowing that some of them had dubious reputations...there were/are no facilities for youngsters in our area unless they join the scouts, boxing or judo clubs. When I was teenager living in a village in Bedfordshire there were youth clubs most nights, and you didn't find 14 years olds out drinking in the street...maybe there should be a curfew? I don't know what the answer is. It seems that there are plenty of activities for the very young, but once they hit 13 or so there's nothing...even the local swimming baths are really too expensive for the younger folk as they've all been taken over by 'Health Clubs'...and charge a fortune.

Grrrrrr!!!!! When I went to walk down thru' the swings at the w/e with 2 little ones I noticed some 14 y o's picking up all the bottles left the night before. I thought, 'what a breathe of fresh air, I must thank them when I get nearer'. However whan I got nearer I realised they were sitting on the swings lining them up to throw and kick!!!! I asked them nicely not to as the little ones could get hurt on the glass, but I'd only cleared them with the children by about 10 feet when I heard them smashing them again! We ended up calling the police and the council, but the police turned up after they had gone [if at all]. It is still covered in shards of glass and broken bottles round there. I feel sorry for the dogs walking in it and the little ones unsteady on their feet. They don't seem to realise [or care] that their actions could actually result in serious injury or worse if someone got cut in a very dodgy place. I almost think that it would take an accident like that before the council make the effort to clear it away as an emergency. I don't understand why we have roadsweepers employed to clear litter, but nobody to clear glass. I'd love to know the answer CPB to give them more productive things to do with their time. I'd like to think their parents would be horrified if they knew what they were doing, but part of me feels they wouldn't really care.

Glad this thread is still alive cos I Want A Whinge! I have broken my carefully cultivated and trimmed.....Big, Long, Sharp Dead-Heading Thumbnail!!! ....and I can't do it properly with my other hand! ( sulkyfacesmiley) It was an amazing tool, always there conveniently on the end of my hand....deadly accurate....and it's gone. Right off short, almost to the elbow!

And rootless carrot tops While I'm on this thread, we had an electricity bill this week. It said something like "We owe you £17.46. We have reviewed your account and we're putting your bill up to £43/month" At the moment we're paying £32/month & they owe us money!!!

Oh dear Juliet... I once had problems financially and couldn't afford the £200 a month repayment so asked if I could make token payments until I could sort something else out.
They wrote back saying we won't accept that however we will accept reduced payments of £300 for the next 6 months... erm how is an extra £100 a month a reduced payment when I've already said I can't afford the £200?! LOL Eejits.

Luckily as we're moving in a couple of months we don't need to worry too much about sorting it out properly - just let them know we're going & get them to pay us what they owe us.

It is C**P. I'm totally, totally fed up. After all the bl***y hard work we've done over a number of years in the garden, this was the year we were going to sit (a bit), relax and enjoy many a bbq with family and friends. Not any chance of that. No chance at all. OOOOOh better stop, I'm getting angry.

I know exactly what you mean Shrub, this was to be THE year for our great garden sort out! His nibs is building a garage up the top of the garden and he has been waiting the past 3 weeks to put the roof on. After that he has promised that we will do the garden (only been waiting 3 years) so obviously its that that is causing all the rain !!!!!!!!!!!!! Looks like its going to be another year of bumpy lawn - no flower beds, no veg garden, and dog poo all over the place because there is no fence to stop other peoples mutts from enjoying the facilities (!) nor prevent our own two wonderful pets from adorning the "garden" with it YUK! So I am heartily cheesed off, by no means the worse off round here but bloody fed up all the same.

It's very disheartening isn't it. I pulled my onions today - rubbish. Hardly enough to cover a cheese and onion toasty. The garlic was a little better. My runners didn't even germinate
