Oooh - no, I didn't think of that! I really ought to - I can't keep depending on you to rescue me if I lose this year's! I took six Parahebe cuttings, and used rooting powder this time. The Persicaria 'Red Dragon' cuttings are growing like mad - I'll have to pot them up individiually ASAP. I rooted them in water. I'll do some more in the spring, as they sold like hot cakes off my plant stall. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/cheesy.gif

Well done Jilly, I've just been checking my little 'vase' of cuttings in the kitchen, don't think it is warm enough for them Most of the cuttings I potted up late Autumn are growing well in the front bedroom, the centradenia, penstemons and salvias all seem to be thriving, a cutting of the 'black' scabious is also growing away, and one of the seedlings of sinocalycanthus chinensis is doing OK, the other one died on me x Tig

Well done to both of you for getting them this far, hopefully what we all have left will continue to do ok for us. My lemon scented pelarognium and some of the coloured ones I took are doing ok for me out in the covered back yard. Unfortunately the Lavender don't seem to have made it. I just can't get them to do well for me at all no matter what I do.

I was reading today that cuttings of penstemons, osteospernums and the like can be placed in Florist's Oasis and then a bag or propagator. If the oasis is kept damp roots should appear within 2 weeks

Interesting Auricula, I wonder if anyone will try it? From now on all my cuttings are going into perlite.

If the oasis is kept damp roots should appear within 2 weeks I read that somewhere too. The only problem I can see is when you try to take the rooted cuttings out of the oasis.....all the roots will come off?...unless you cut round and leave some on the roots......that idea doesn' appeal. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/undecided.gif

I was thinking the same Amber. I guess you could plant your oasis plug in soil and it'll rot away in the end I agree LG except I used vermiculite - what a difference in survival rate!

Funny that - I had no success at all when I used perlite. I think I may have had it too wet

I've got penstemons, coreopsis, salvia and phlox on the go at the moment and am thinking about taking some fuchsia cuttings of Twist and Shout and Frosted Flame as they are a bit different.

I did wonder about a car boot sale Jasmine.... but.... what if I pay for a pitch and there are no takers I've only been to one cbs and there were no plants at all there, it's not a very gardeningy place

Look how much I made at the school summer fair, and that was just to folk who didn't know they needed any plants! I would give it a go once or twice and see how it goes. I think if you sell at £2 or £3 or even £4 folk will buy! I love chatting to folk too so it's like a day out!

I have to keep taking cuttings Auricula as my overwintering facilities are primitive to say the least so I never know what's going to make it through so I need spares. It's also a whole lot easier to keep babies in the spare room & let the main plant take it's chances. I've done some of the Salvias, a couple of Penstamons & the White Heliotrope atm, I must get some more taken though. Every piece of Coreopsis Limerock Dream seems to take, but I've planted them all out, must take a couple later on, just in case.

Coreopsis roots really easily doesn't it Jilly? Just as well as it snaps really easily too!
