Well captured Tig! I saw quite a few Bees today but didn't have my camera handy at the time. I did get a pic of a frog though!

They seem to be doing OK around here FA - the bumbles that is, I saw a definite decline in honey bees last year but we have had two lousy 'summers' - maybe they will pick up this year with the right encouragement ... come on folks get sowing those bee friendly flowers ;D

That is lovely LG Mowhay I don't much care for lupins, but that is rather nice! (obviously agree with the bee ) Bee central again on the blue geranium today, quite a frenzy of activity! These were all taken within seconds of each other ... Fine pair of saddle bags on this one And a last but not least .. x Tig

Here are a couple that I snapped the other day

Post by Tig on Jun 15, 2009 18:16:26 GMT
They are all very buzzy at the moment The enormous flower spike on my cordyline is opening the smell is rather sweet & strange - the bees are drawn to it like a magnet Unfortunately it is about 8' up in the sky and the only way I can get a photo is through the front bedroom window, which is in sun most of the day x Tig

Wow Tig I never knew that they flowered or grew that tall, how long did it take to get that big please? I have 2 Red ones but they are only small yet. If you would like Tig I can did up some small plants for you, just send me a PM. It grows like a weed in the top garden and OH is always mowing it down and the next week its back up again ;D. Thanks Chuckles for the nomination the Bee posed for that pic I think it was grateful that I saved its life.

Thanks you, I would love some I planted that cordyline in 1996, it was a tiny little thing I got from Wilkies for £1.99 with two shoots growing. Both are now huge!!! The one you can see below it to the right was bought in 1992 in Torquay, it was kept in a container for the first few years and the main root curled in the bottom of the pot, it is nowhere near as tall as you can see. I think they do better planted straight into the driest, sunniest, nutrient deficient place you have in the garden I have the red ones, they don't do as well as the green, or the green with a reddish line running through the middle of the leaf. I bought the variegated one last year (Dazzler), it got hit by frost, I left it in the ground and it now has two new shoots coming through. Never discard them if they die in the middle, they often send up new shoots. A thin leafed one I have in the 'cool' border had four babies growing ... I could try separating one Carol x Tig

Great pics Carolann, I've noticed several different kinds in my garden too but my neighbour had a big bumble bee dying earlier on today. They love my Astrantia Ruby Wedding too.
