Hi All I hope this isn't a duplicate thread,( ignore it if it is ) but I was wondering what people think of the choice of Toby Buckland as the new presenter of BBCs Gardeners World TV programme. Personally I think he seems a bit dull and worthy, but I'm willing to give him a fair trial - even though I'm devastated that Chris Beardshaw was overlooked!! I just hope he leaves his hobby horses firmly in the stable and is able to rekindle the publics enthusiasm for TV gardening programmes. Here's hoping

I'm quite sure he'll be fine, but I have to admit, I don't feel a dislike for any of the folk on GW, past or present. I'm glad it's not Chris Beardshaw, but that could be down to the adulation he receives elsewhere ;D

Wash your mouth out WT Let's hope a new broom adds a bit of spice to proceedings, even if he doesn't set hearts fluttering!! ;D

Folk liking Chris Beardshaw in a 'fanciable' way is as incomprehensible to me, as my liking Russell Brand is to other people. I may have to have a poll

Spruance set up a poll a while back on this ... You can see how folks on here at the time voted gardenworld.proboards103.com/index.cgi?board=chat&action=display&thread=6041Personally I don't mind who is the 'lead' presenter (if they need one ) just as long as they present a well balanced programme with something interesting for everyone, new gardeners and those with a bit more experience, covering all aspects of growing and its associated challenges. x Tig

It's GWD Celebration Day Jenny! Fun, frolics and 'readings' in the Diggit. ;D I've brought a load of magazines for Madame Mandragoras who is a prolific reader, I believe. Hope she's had a bath, she's been a bit 'aromatic' for much of the week and with the Diggit having low ceilings, her presence has lingered rather!!!

Definitely friend, Auricula! I spoke to him quite often at GWLive and worked in his garden for a little while (oh dooo stop dropping that in at every opportunity.. ) and he is a really nice bloke. He's really genuine and really cares about his gardening, and while I know what you mean about him sounding a bit worthy, I don't think that's the case actually. He's really committed to recycling and sustainable gardening but he is a 'proper' gardener and loves his plants! I think he'd be great on GW, that little bit of fluffy silliness on the GWLive programme, wasn't very typical of him - and made me quite cross! That was just the Beeb's idea of crowd pleasing IMO and did Toby Buckland no favours at all...

That's great news 4P - I'm looking forward to his "reign" now. WT - I think Russell Brand has a definite "twinkle" ( even though I'm old enough to be his Mum ) but don't think he knows enough about gardening to present GW ;D ;D There's only one fantabulosi CB but I am heartened by 4Ps comments on cuddly Tobe and I wish him well ( after all, anyone must be an improvement on po-faced MD !!! )

I like him, he has been on quite a few of the less prestigious gardening programmes over the past few years...and frequently writes in AG magazine. I think he's a good choice. There wouldn't be any point in having CB...who'd be able to concentrate on the gardening with him sitting there...smoldering into the camera.... he's got FAR too much pent up passion bubbling under the surface IMO. Toby Buckland is a top bloke, I'm well chuffed.

I was very pleasantly surprised at the news. He reminds me of the late great GH in a lot of ways you know - that easy charm, ability to interact with anyone and how he talks about plants and puts things over. Looking forward to how he does on GW. It might get a lot more interesting now. Let's hope so, eh?

If he's half as good as GH was then he'll get thumbs up from me. I'm looking forward to seeing how he does on the show and if the format changes now that he's joined the team.

I have no opinion on Toby Buckland as I don't ever recall seeing him on anything. That said, I am more than a little surprised that they didn't give it to Carol Klein, or do the BBC have something against female main presenters?

I cant make my mind up about Carol Klein she seems just too nice Does anyone know how Monty is I would love Simon Harrison-Knibbs and his side kick Ryan Durrant to have a guest slot and see how the public liked them
