Spring onions can be sown now outdoors, lng, that way you get nice early ones, you can also sow some in the spring, for a later harvest, cant say about greenhouse, always have mine outside

Hi LNG, I have grown them in the GH over Winter but you have to watch out for the Green fly, they seem to love them in the GH. Also if their is a frost just cover them with a fleece unless you have heating. ;D

OH I've just now caught up with this thread, forgot to bookmark. Thanks a lot to both of you for your advice.I've never grown them and had no idea when or where to sow them. I think what I'll do is sow some middle of next week and keep my fingers crossed. Do you sow yours in pots and transplant them FB or sow them directly into the soil.? I don't have heating CA52 only a mini greenhouse which is looking rather full at the moment no idea where all the seedlings have come from.

Untill when can you sow FB? I am still reconstructing and hope to have most done by the end of next week. Only then can I sow anything.

Did'nt have the heart to sow them straight into the ground, they're in little pots in the mini greenhouse.

Had a quick look in the mini greenhouse this morning before I went to work. I've got the tiniest little signs of germination ;D Keeping my fingers crossed. They're so very small. It was dark when I got home so did'nt get a chance to look again, just wrapped up the bubblewrap around everything again. Have to keep them snug

;D Don't we all. I cut up the plastic coffee cups those thin white ones as you can write real well on those with a plain pencil and they don't rot. Here is the backdraw. They now use paper ones and those do rot. Hm I might try pegs next

they kindof go a bit mouldy and rot too but Dutchy I'm afraid. But they're ok if you keep them out of the soil

Maybe you can give them a quick coat of cheap acrylic (plastic)paint to seal them. Maybe different colours for different reasons and im sure you will still be able to write on them OR a quick spray of waterproof varnish

I got a pack of spring onion seeds free today from the GC they are White Lisbon too.
Am going to try growing them in a pot...can anyone tell me how deep the pot will have to be? I want to sow them in there so that I don't have to keep re-potting them into bigger pots as they grow and how will I know when they are ready. Will I have to wait until they look like the ones in the supermarkets?

You wont need a deep pot,MRH,they only go down an inch or two, They are best when as big round as your little finger,if they get too big, they can be strong,
