I wonder what everyone wanted to be when growing up and what they would like to be now I wanted to be a 'bus conductor - clipping those tickets and telling everyone to "move on down the 'bus" sounded like heaven to me ;D When I grew up I wanted to go into the Army; I wish I had pushed for this but my parents against it My cousin went on to become a Major I was so envious of his achievements

I wanted to be an air hostess when I was little which is strange for someone who is now scared of flying and only gets on a plane because its the best way to get to some places. I also get travel sickness. I can laugh about it now - I would be the worst person to have as cabin crew! I wouldn't really change what I do now but if I could start all over again I think I would choose to train to be a midwife.

I wanted to be a window dresser. I was really serious about it until I worked as a Saturday girl at Debenhams and the window dressers said that the pay was rubbish. I did end up doing a display but don't really remember much about it. I'd also love to own a little shop, in a really pretty little town or somewhere like Barnes (not that we can afford to be anywhere near Barnes!!!). It would be a gift/craft shop and sell stuff you couldn't normally find on the high street, gorgeous cards, handmade things. Again, it's just a pipe dream - it will never happen!

I had it all mapped out from a very early age. I would definitely be working with horses!! Sadly, it turned out I was allergic to them That's probably why they are still my obsession, cos I was never able to live my dream

I know P I'm not so bad now, at 55, probably cos the drugs have improved, and have managed to do quite a bit of riding in my life, as in Get-in, get-on, ride, get-off, get-out-fast , but could never look after one The grooming is the real killer - instant Asthma attack!! I'm still such a saddo about them The sound of hoofbeats still has me rushing like a little kid to "look at the horsey" ;D

I was at work yesterday and heard someone clip clopping down the lane outside. It was a lovely sunny morning and I would have loved to be clip clopping down the country lanes with them....

When I was very small I wanted to be a cowgirl ;D (blame Doris Day for that one!) Early teens I wanted to work on a farm, under blue skies, running through fields of corn. Mid teens - air hostess (that is a common one isn't it?) I too would have loved to work with horses, but the nearest I got was riding lessons, Sunday mornings, Cockington stables x Tig

when i was about 9, I wanted to be a dance teacher, because I went to tap school, when I was older I wanted to be a nun, ;D nearing school leaving age, i wanted to be a typist, and i ended up in an office being the dogsbody, I soon tired of that, so I went to work for a tailor, and learned to make coats, I have to say I enjoyed it, I did it until 2001 in one form or another, and off and on around family, I then became a child-minder. and many more days like today I wont be doing that for long. ;D

I wanted to work in a post office and stamp things. I had a post office game when I was little and used to set up shop on my Mum's ironing board. I love my current job dearly (most days!) but when I go into a little post office in rural France when on holiday I do still have a hankering. ;D

Funnily enough I don't touch rum and coke on land, but I've done a bit of sunshine sailing in my time and rum and coke is perfect at sea ;D

Actually, I wanted to be a lollipop lady and change my name to Mary Murphy because I wanted matching initials. My mum still takes the michael out of me about the Mary Murphy thing!

I always made strange things out of other strange things and loved doing the school play set designing and construction. I think I would have done quite well at scifi special effects had it not been so secular and then hugely taken over by the computer! I have had a link with engineering for 22 years now and find it absolutely facinating how a flat sheet or thick bar of metal can be transformed into sometimes quite beautiful and intricate things. When we have finished moving the factory (please be soon! ) I'm having a display case put in with some of the more intricate pieces our men make on display.

I wanted to be an actor after being a resounding success as Abenazar in Aladdin at primary school (aged 8 I think). Then I wanted to be an artist or an author as I was good at both drawing and writing stories. By the time I was 16 those things were not cool and I wanted to be a kennel maid because I had a saturday job at the local Quarantine kennels! I was put off that by the cost of the training and the pittance of the wages. When I left school I knew not what I wanted so, with the help of my Dad, applied for 3 office jobs, had 2 interviews, offered 2 jobs and Dad advised me to choose the Civil Service. That was that for the next 33 years!! Now I'm not working and spend as much time as I can painting pictures. Who knows, one day I may earn a little money from it.

As a child I always wanted to be a lorry driver like my dad. I often went with him on short trips but was none too keen to accompany him on long distance trips especially as this would have meant being away from home for as long as three days! ;D In reality I have spent the last thirty-three years working in shipping, and since that involves daily contact with haulage companies, I suppose it's not a million miles away from my childhood aspirations.

I wanted to be a lorry driver, then that changed to policeman but by the time I left school, I didn't have a clue what I wanted to do. Somehow I drifted into the Civil Service and 21 years later, I'm still here !!
My absolute dream job would be a wildlife photographer, taking pictures of flora & fauna all over the world.

I wanted to be a teacher from a very early age ( bossy!!). I became a teacher and ended up as a deputy headteacher ( still bossy!!). If I had my time again I would love to go to drama school and be an actress ( a bossy show off!!) or own a plant nursery ( bossy and lazy, as I would sit in the greenhouse taking cuttings when it was wet or cold!!)
