Flea beetles have been a real pest here this year too. I'm trying so hard to encourage the bees and good insects and have been reluctant to spray. I've noticed loads of tiny tiny little green caterpillars or perhaps they're saw flies. The leaves of the sp are covered in the lines that Tig described a while ago.

Flea beetle heaven sweet peas Leaf miners have been burrowing through quite a few things this year. I keep removing any infected leaves as soon as I spot them. Still plenty of pickings on the sp's - some tiny, some medium, some still quite a decent length stem .. this mornings bunches x Tig

Not that many Missy - I think I had ten germinate from the sowing late last year (they are the pink and red ones and still have quite long stems), the blues, mauves and pale pinks were the spring sowings and I reckon I had about a dozen germinate.

A friend of ours came over for a bbq yesterday and asked us when she would get more peas ? Apparently, my non gardening friend had harvested the peas, cooked them and given them to her hubby......and he's still here to tell the tale !!!!!!!!!!!

We picked our last bunch of sweet peas on July 31st - not bad considering the changeable weather we've had this "summer"

I've been away this week and come back to pick 3 full vases of my sweetpea. They're still blooming really well and have benifited from the weekly tomato feed. They're autumn sown ones and the tops which I planted out. I'm delighted, although the bottom of the plants now have lots of mildew on them.

I must admit that feeding the sweet peas is a bit hit and miss with me - I seem to forget about them. But these are tonights pickings, and the longest one is over 15" All in a recycled 'vase' now x Tig

All my pink and red ones are from saved seed from last year, and to be frank, I think they have done better than the bought seed - I am not going to let them set just yet, optimistically hoping for a lovely Indian Summer x Tig

This is most likely one of the last pics of the autumn grown sp from me as i'm letting them go to seed now. You will remember they're the pinchings out which I potted on in the hope of getting extra plants. It was an experiment for me and undoubtable a huge success as we're now into september and they're still going strong and smelling wonderful every time I come in and out the garden gate.

Well done LG - I shall definitely be trying to get my ' tips' growing in future! I still have the odd flower on my autumn grown plants, the spring sown finished a couple of weeks back. I noted that the autumn sowing had longer stems and seemed to perform better for longer .. I have my seeds ready to sow next month x Tig

Thanks Tig and FB. I'm sure it's the cooler summers and lots of rain which lets us keep some of our flowers for longer FB. Having said that nearly all of the rest of the october sown sp have been over for about a fortnight or so here and it's only these tips that are lasting better. I'm glad to hear you're going to try growing your tips next season Tig, you have nothing to loose really. I have a few of the spring sown ones still blooming too but they're hopefully going to seed too. In another few weeks we'll be starting a new thread for our october sown sweetpea. ;D
