PJ, I was but Auricula decided I'd make a better Charlie, probably thought I'd make a right Charlie of myself Jen at post 429, after Auricula suggested I make a video I posted that with help from all the Staffordshire based board members we might be able to pull something together. I thought you liked reading? ;D You're not far away, p'raps you could lounge seductively on the garden furniture and tend to the gnomes? x Tig

It was brilliant!!! It had a bit of veg, some fruit and lots of general garden info. Found the link which tells you what the general programme content was today and a bit about the gardens. The best bit for me was looking at all the winter damage and advice on what to tackle and what to leave for a few weeks. The half hour flew by, always a good sign (not one yawn ) www.beechgrove.co.uk/Something to look forward to on a Monday night x Tig

Anyone watch GW tonight? How can anyone take these so called professionals seriously? There was this Don fella at the end of March, sowing sweet pea seed and rubbishing autumn sowing of them and tonight, there he was planting young healthy plants that had obviously been grown during the winter. Oh...and remember, no need to dead head daffodils. They must think we are mugs! i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/angry.gif

Oh there is a load of rubbish talked about how to care for daffs!! I have been cutting my daffs down after about a couple of weeks of them dying for well over 30 years now to make room for my summer planting and they always come back healthy. All these garden programs are contrived Ive jut been looking at the behind scenes of the Beechgrove garden ! thats just a film set as well. At the end of the day if I can glean a bit of knowledge from someone who is a proffessional Im not going to complain.

Yes I did raise an eyebrow about the daffodil advice. Surely MD knows that if you don't dead head then the plants energy goes into producing seed whereas what us gardeners want is all of the goodness going back into the roots. At least he didn't suggest tying a knot in the stems as was once common practice. ...and another thing... Who else gets their new plants individually wrapped in moss and paper? Otherwise it wasn't too bad. ;D

"Who else gets their new plants individually wrapped in moss and paper?"
Unfortunately they come with courtesy of the TV licence fee payer...which is why I suspect he insisted on the programme being filmed at his own garden.
I hate being fed garbage!

I enjoyed Beechcroft gardens just 'cos they have covered issues that are 'real' to me and my garden. Not that interested in the garden design stuff, but could see how folk with new houses would find it useful. Did find the euphorbia bits on GW interesting, only because I've invested in so many of late. Thought the same as others about the sweetpeas, as for the daff advice it was too contradictory to all that has been given before? Wish they'd make their minds up and provide some evidence to support the claims! I do fancy trying to sow some seeds though x Tig

;D That's what I was thinking too Auricula, I'm simply not interested in them. I watch the programme but I'm not getting any inspiration from it. Beechgrove is much more interesting, even if they are studio gardens they're still more relivant and interesting.

I dont know why they have got MD back in GW he looks like he cant be bothered and sorry Tig but when he planted that euphorbia it was a joke it leaned to one side and looked silly. I think they have made a big mistake with MD i know hes been ill but hes not looking very interested in it all at all.

Hi, Snowowl
Call me a cynic, but MD knew exactly what he was doing when he agreed to take on the GW job again. He insisted that it was to be shot from his own garden & that was non-negotiable....I heard him say so with my own ears!
This way he gets his own plot planted up with top class goodies, courtesy of the TV licence fee payers....mugs like us! Believe me those neatly packaged artichokes; with moss around the roots don't come cheap. I do hope others rumble him soon.
Let's face it; his garden is certainly in need of some renovation.

when he planted that euphorbia it was a joke it leaned to one side and looked silly. My non gardening OH said exactly the same thing Snowy, he said it looked like I'd planted it . I agree about those b****y Limes too Auricula, I was wondering exactly how many of those I would get in my 40' long back garden i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/grin.gif I must say that we are enjoying this series though (although probably not for the reason the BBC think) we usually manage at least one good laugh per program. Just listening to The Archers episode with the Gardeners Question Time team. Matthew Wilson, Eric Robson, and Bob Flowerdew. Quite amusing!
Matthew Wilson is drooled over! What does he look like?
