Ok for beginners, no real substance to it.Mind you the same can be said of GW - if it's going to be in MDs garden for goodness sake let's see him do enough gardening to make a difference to it!!

I was quite surprised to see that Monty only lifted his first new potatoes on (his birthday) 8th July. We have been eating ours for two weeks now!

I thought it was ok - obviously aimed at non gardeners but watchable. You choose the amount that gets spent from a selection of envelopes - they were lucky it was a large amount OH was quite taken with Bonnie

I think, knowing it was'nt likely to give much info about gardening made my expectations low. Just as well. It just a makeover show and I was'nt impressed at all to be honest.

Watched a little bit of GW last night what did you think of the hosta garden? I thought it was wonderful I kept thinking how did they control the S&S's but the garlic wash looked to be doing its job very well I didnt see a hole anywhere I think the camera was only showing us the best bits but well done if the garlic works.

It was very lush wasn't it? But they said they kept every one of them in pots!!!! What a job watering that lot - and repotting must be high on their agenda. Some of them looked planted in to me The bit on keeping the sweetpeas going was interesting. Monty never once mentioned feeding them, or the fact that the stems get shorter and shorter as the plants age. Well mine do, even if I pick them regularly. x Tig

I was amazed and impressed by the hill garden. The amount of work involved must have been huge and he's got a young family too. Loved how he's made it interesting for them too. To be honest I thought the Hosta garden a bit overcrowded (says she who shoe horns plants in all the time) and wonder how on earth they can keep it all watered. I've heard of that Garlic was before, now that I've got loads of Garlic from my harvest that I have to use up because they're damaged, I might give it a go. I thought it was very remiss of Monty not to say how good it is to dig in the roots of the peas and beans after they've gone over. He just said to pull them all up and put them on the compost heap.

I liked the look of Monty's garden at this time of year. The box hedging really comes into play when it has something to frame. I thought the hostas were great also.

Yes....boring!! I would rather the programme be devoted to practical subjects, rather than garden visits - they could be on a separate set of programmes. The hedge trimming would have been ok, but we didn't need the whole "boys toys" array of tools...in detail!! What about beds, borders, veg etc, surely they haven't forgotten the programmes brief??
