We watched the last 15 minutes of the allotment programme on BBC2 and I doubt that we will stop watching our favourite German programmes for that in the future...then we switched to BBC4 and British Gardens and gave up after 10 mins or so - I hope Biddulph Grange next week will be a bit more to our liking...

What a disappointment the allotment programme was.

I'm glad you said that Barbara - I thought it might just have been me In that format I can't see it ever getting a second series - what was it trying to be? However, I do fancy rhubarb and custard curd now!

I thought the allotment programme was ok and it might get better as we get used to the people. I thought Fern B was good. I wish they showed you more about the actual growing and the week to week tasks but I'll stick with it

Think we'll stick with the allotment thing for a while yet, I never expected it to be much about gardening to be honest, think it's meant to be like the bake off & be reasonably unthreatening to non gardeners. Not sure about the format though, I kept thinking I'd missed a program, as I'd have like to have met the contestants & seen them starting off at least before they got into the competition bit.
OH kindly offered to get the washing up done & clean down the kitchen whilst I went upstairs to watch Stowe right after, what a disappointment after the gorgeous program about Great Dixter last week, I was nearly losing the will to live by the end, I'm sure it's a very lovely space to have a walk around, but I wouldn't call it a garden, I don't think I spotted one plant that wasn't an ancient tree.

'Fraid that is what OH and I felt like and went to bed in the end - some incredibly wonderful old trees but you really can get enough of them....well we did anyway !! RF

Thanks for the heads up about Stowe, I've recorded it but not seen it yet. I may have to fast forward. I was'nt impressed with the allotment format at all. I don't like the bake off programmes either and thougth last night's 1st episode was very disjointed. I'd have liked some more tips and hints about how to grow things but that's not going to happen. I may finish watching the 1st episode but I stopped it this morning as I had to go out.

I like all those sort of programmes ( I watch the allotments, baking, sewing and decorating ones avidly as well as Masterchef ) Stowe was a bit slow, but having been there twice ( and loved it) I stuck with it.

Well I watched the end of the allotment programme but still was'nt impressed. Not sure if it's my thing at all. I could'nt be persuaded to watch the whole of the one about Stowe, even with Cris Beardshaw doing the describing. The place itself was amazing but it was such a boring programme to me.

With regards to the allotment programme, i was really very sceptical.......not another bloody reality TV show !!!! It seemed they'd just run out of ideas after the British bake off was such a success.
However, i've thoroughly enjoyed it and learnt a fair bit too. Would like to see a bit more of the growing techniques but i found it really enjoyable.

I enjoy the allotment programme too. I would prefer to see a bit more of the weekly growing tasks but they may well tweak it if there's a 2nd series ( like they did the Sewing Bee) I look forward to it and find it interesting, and I think the correct couple went last night....although the "glamour girls" are on thin ice imo

What reason did they use for saying it?? RF As far as I remember they said something about suckers Rosefriend, I was only half paying attention. Having said that, I enjoyed the 2nd episode more than the 1st. Perhaps because we're learning a bit more about the contestants. I wish they'd give more tips on things, for example, they were being judged on their runner beans and the judge wanted to see straight beans that snapped in 2 crisply with flesh inside rather than beans. He did'nt however, give us any adivce on how to achieve this. Still have to catch up on the 2nd of the British Gardens.

I quite enjoyed the allotment programme this week, now that I've gotten used to the format and know what to expect. You were right about the glam girls Auricula. Did anyone see the wonderful British Gardens in Time about Nymans last night. It was the best so far and I loved every moment of it. If I lived nearby I'd definately pay a visit, I enjoyed the story about the history of it too.

I quite enjoyed Gardeners World this week. There were some lovely new plants on show. I was especially impressed with the blue Geranium that Carol bought, does anyone know the name of it. I liked the look of the Lunaria Chedglow Purple as well.
