I know 2 was veggie, but it was supposed to be to launch the Dig in thing. But as OH has decided this is the year of the veg (He hates the word veg!! We have to call the vegetables. ) in this house and has gone out and out with his raised beds (another on appeared yesterday ) he is actually watching the program with me and I think that alone is fab! Chuckles, chuckles, Chuckles chuKLES!!! how could you not know about the wire notch on your secateurs? ?? (I'd put in spanking smiley here but can't be arsed to go through the full reply dodah)

I didn't know that secateurs could have a notch either But then - I never deal with wire in our garden - I think that must be OH's domain!! ;D

Watch it on iPlayer steve!!! You girls have to make sure it's the notch right in the corner of the blade, not one of the seven or so of varying sizes put there over time.

Not even from here steve? www.bbc.co.uk/gardenersworld/ Mind you I can't use iPlayer either, my ground station is in Turin. Don't you Sky + either?? I quite enjoyed last nights. I still struggle a big with the focus on the close up stuff! Can someone tell me, what's the point of chossing 5 people if they only want 3 for the Carol School thing? What a waste of time for two of them. Either use all five or only choose 3 to start with. Honestly.

What did everyone think of last nights programme? I wasn't that impressed, but hey I haven't got a commercial sized patch to sow with wildflowers, or the money to buy a cement mixer to make a sowing and throwing mix I thought they made hard work of dividing the day lilies, and it was a bit late to be doing it IMHO Alys mucked up a couple of times when she was taking dahlia cuttings, she didn't use terminology which beginners would necessarily understand (not everyone knows what a node is), and she muddled her words when placing the cuttings in the pot. I enjoyed bits of it though, stange I can't recall what they were this morning x Tig

It was a bit like the curates egg, in my opinion - I thought the cement mixer was daft and Alys was a bit cackhanded with the dahlia cuttings. Still, I thought it was a step in the right direction - I just hope they keep revisiting areas like the pond, meadow etc so we can see them debvelop. I also hope they stop flitting the camera about, and let us see what is actually being done. All things considered I shall carry on watching it

I watched last night for the first time this year, it cant be easy for them to please everyone and still try to come up with new ideas and as Auricula says it seems to be going in the right direction.

I really enjoyed it. I think they are showing an interesting variety of items. Personally I find it quite comforting to see the professionals not doing everything perfectly or by the book! And I loved that raised pond - I think it will look lovely. I'm glad they are showing 'ordinary' gardens and gardeners too - thought that lady with her mother's Buddleja was very touching. I even quite enjoyed the 'hot' wall bit - much more interesting than Top Gear's version anyway! ;D

Well I can usually tell if I liked it by if I start going out the door to do something in the garden at the end of it. Yes I know it would be dark and late but I always wanted to get out there after Geoff and Alan. I haven't even made any notes as such yet. I can see where they want to go so why don't they get on and go there??? Ffafing around in some DJ's lawn, I mean Oh and wouldn't the peach tree be better off against that lovely baking wall than stuck in the middle of a windy field?

Are all the gardening / lifestyle programmes on sky /uktv etc repeats? I only ask because I am thinking of getting Sky but would like to think there was more to "style" package than repeats

Post by Ladygardener on May 6, 2009 7:45:40 GMT
The garden ones are all repeats which have been shown on different channels in the past Auricula. The editing is odd too as they often cut people off in mid sentence to go for a commercial break. They're well worth watching 'tho and I enjoy them.

Is it just me or has Big Al's nose got bigger?? It will be a joy to have some 'garden' progs on everyday, even if I do get to see the same things over and over and over ;D I notice the organisers keep stressing how good it is - even though they haven't received the same degree of funding and sponsorship as in previous years! Time will tell x Tig
