I started to watch the Queen's Garden but gave up after 20 mins of the first one. I can't bear AT in his "grovelling to anything royal" mode - he's really working hard for that Knighthood

I enjoyed The Great Allotment Challenge the other night and Show me your garden showed off a couple of lovely gardens with the owners there to explain why/how they did certain things. I enjoyed it too. I think there are only going to be 3 episodes of it, each showing a couple of gardens, 3 I think it was.

As much as I try I never seem to be able to catch up on any of the garden progs and from what I can find the Show me your garden is on Sky, I'm only bog standard tv channels. Just seen this about some of the 2015 progs www.telegraph.co.uk/gardening/11304180/The-best-gardening-TV-programmes-in-2015.html From early March Gardeners’ World will return to BBC Two for a 47th year, made me wonder what the very 1st episode was like I was only 10 yrs old

I enjoyed the Allotment Challenge too Ladygardener, I never think they get the format quite right though, as I always feel that they should do a show first that shows everyone starting off their plots & introducing them properly. It's good though because OH will watch it with me as it can be quite funny in places. Loved the woman last week who said that she'd been gardening for years & was such a laid back person, then spent the rest of the time moaning about everything nygrin Don't know about the first episode of GW Chuckles, but I know what it was like in the late 60s. I was only 8 or 9 years old and my 2 spinster aunts & my single uncle who all lived together & had a bit more money than the rest of the family bought the first colour TV that anyone had seen, just so they could watch GW in colour & the whole family used to congregate at their house on a Friday evening to watch it (as all the adults were keen gardeners) I thought it was very boring at the time, but I think I must have been subconsciously programmed to get into gardening later nygrin

I first started watching it in the late 70's when I got my own house and garden. I remember Geoff Hamilton he was my favourite presenter. I do like our Alan too 'tho. He always seems to make things simple and encouraging. Chuckles, Jilly, I think you're right about the format, it would be good to have a programme where it shows how they went about designing their plots. I was in agreement about who was the 1st to leave, were you Jilly? Chuckles you're right it is on Sky but there are 2 new ones on BBC2 starting this coming week.

Geoff Hamilton was my favourite too Ladygardener, probably for the same reason as you, it was when we got our first (well still this one actually) house & garden. Plus in looks & personality he always reminded me of my Dad. Loved Alan too though. Yes I did agree on who went, poor little lad, he didn't have a clue practically, but good on him for giving it a go.

And me Barbara Lots of enthusiastic amateur gardeners who have created their own piece of paradise, often in very challenging conditions. I didn't watch the 7pm Garden Revival programme because it mentioned Rachel de Thame & for some reason she just annoys me Will watch tonights though.

We enjoyed it too Ladygardener, &OH asked me 3 times during the program if I'd ever grown Larkspur, seeing as even the experienced gardeners were having trouble & I've never got a Delphinium to germinate for me, that should be fun, but if I see a pack of seeds I may have to give it a go.

It would make you want to give them a go would'nt it, they'd be great in a cutting flower garden. Don't forget to pop them into the fridge for a week or so Jilly.

Some of these ''back gardens'' are more like country parks really. loved the bird cages but I wouldn't want them in my garden.

I thought that too Barbara, some of those featured had acres to work with, not really a 'back garden'! What struck me watching last nights programme was that the owners were nearly all a bit 'eccentric' I've grown larkspur from seed, I don't think I had any problems with them, but probably didn't keep cutting the flowers which they said makes them bush up more. I've got a some to sow.

Talking about the power of TV, I don't suppose anyone saw the Garden revival the other night, with James Wong doing lilies, I thought I was imagining it, but twice he walked past a wonderful yellow lily with purple stamens, he didn't mention it either time & I've been looking on all the specialist lilly websites but can't seem to find it, perhaps it was a trick of the light. If not I want one

That's a lovely one Rosefriend, this was definitely just an ordinary Oriental type though it just had blue/purple stamens instead of orange, as I say it could possibly just have been a trick of the light.

I don't have Satellite tv pothead, but did notice reviews of SMYG. I won't grow lilies because of the cats, but was sorely tempted by some I saw on display in the gc on Wed....perhaps if I kept them in the greenhouse?? :/

Got up to see the Great British Revival and what happens - they are only showing Daffodils and Blossom Trees again which we saw last week - it does damn well annoy me when they mess around like this...we all pay enough charges whether it is the UK or Germany !!

I agree with Barbara and Tig about the back gardens. Some folk have gardens bigger than the whole street I live in but it is great to see how enthusiastic people are. I was surprised at the many beautiful plants grown in the Scottish gardens. I did'nt think there would be such a choice. I enjoyed the allotment challenge, pity it's finished now.

I ment to say, Tig one of the ladies on one of the shows in Scotland had an old pair of tights over her head. A bit like a bank robber, to keep the miges away. I thought of you.

I have been trying to get Olaf sorted with Filmon as he would like to watch it..think Beechgrove is the end of the month, beginning of April - later than I would have thought... Thanks for letting us know Ladygardener,
