Yeah, you're right mate. Even though it's a small car, there's plenty of leg room in the front and it's not too bad in the back either.

I once registered a car (seeing as I did the sales admin) and gave a car the reg of **04KYJ which I though was amusing. The next one which the new car owner refused to have and we had to change was **04BJO. She said it looked too much like something rude. Can't think what she meant... Sorry April, it's a bit early for my brain , but I cannot see what is funny/rude about either of those reg numbers i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/undecided.gif Well done FA i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/wink.gif Did the naughty plate swing it for you? You could fit a big light-up arrow pointing to it to get your feelings across to drivers who annoy you! i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/wink.gif i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/grin.gif I hope you don't come to regret the smaller engine. Last summer my beloved old 1.4 Rover died i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/cry.gif and I bought (cos I needed a car quickly and it was cheap) a Skoda Felicia 1.3. I do not like it i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/sad.gif I will never love it i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/sad.gif Considering it's 4 years newer, with half the mileage, and got a much smaller sardine-can body than the Rover, the 100cc less power is noticeably gutless in comparison i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/sad.gif I know the Skoda has a good reputation generally, but I'm not happy with it, and I know it doesn't like me either i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/sad.gif I have garage bills already to prove it!! I am still having to be physically restrained when I see a pre-1996 1.4 Rover for sale i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/rolleyes.gif OH and friends going "Noooooooo!!", but that car never let me down and left me sitting at the side of the road, even when it was very ill/dying. It always got me home. I felt safe and happy in it i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/wink.gif The Skoda obviously picks up my subtle negative vibes ("Come on you useless pile of sh*t!!!!) and reacts to it accordingly ("Oh for f***'s sake!! What's that awful noise?? Oh sh*t, it's cut out AGAIN!!! What's wrong with the bl**dy thing NOW???"........you get the picture........ Oooh dear, should have gone on the whinge thread with this one shouldn't I? Sorreeeee!

I hope you don't come to regret the smaller engine. I really wish you hadn't said that NO. Have been having serious 2nd thoughts about the car because of the smaller engine. I really wanted a 1.4 but a) there aren't many about and b) they're more expensive so we'd have to go for something older and with more miles on the clock. Putting my sensible head on, I know that the fuel economy, tax and insurance will be pretty cheap and I know that with it being so new, it will have the full manufacturers warranty until Sept 2010 and the Network Q warranty for 12 months from when we pick it up, plus it's got air con, electric windows, CD player etc and doesn't need an MOT for nearly 2 years, I just can't get it out of my head that it's only a 1.2.......... I was supposed to phone up and arrange a loan today. Haven't done it yet because I am still not 100% sure FA x

In 1985 I switched from a 1.6 Cortina MkV to a 1.3 Escort and I also wondered if I was doing the right thing at first. What confirmed my decision was the fact that though only 3 years old I had experienced any number of problems with the Cortina and so I was pleased to get rid of it. The Escort was brand new with a 3 year warranty and was just right for me. What is more it was just so nice not to have to worry if the car would start in the morning or how much the repair bills would be. I ended up keeping that car for over twelve years and never regretted having the smaller engine. Your Corsa looks like a very nice car Andy, and what if it is only 1.2litres? I am sure that a 2007 1.2 model is far more powerful than maybe even a 1.3 or 1.4 was just a few years ago. Just think how nice it will be not to have any more car worries for the next few years.

My 1.2 was very nippy FA. You just learn to adjust your driving to suit what you can do. I actually mellowed out a lot once I had a car I knew didn't have the power to get past people on some of the places I used to overtake on lol
I'm actually surprised I never killed myself. I'm now going from a 1.8 Escort to a 1.4 Punto but it probably won't be much different oomph wise because the 1.8 is quite old.

Anyone know where I can get a cheap loan from ? I just tried to apply for a Tesco loan but they won't do it for more than 5 years. Neither will Lombard. I tried my bank (Nationwide) but they were too expensive. I don't have enough experience of having loans to know where is good and where is bad. I tried comparethemarket.com but they didn't have anything that was overly competitive on rates.
Any ideas ?
Thanks FA x

How much more than 5 years were you thinking Andy? Why not take advantage of the low rates and increase your mortgage - if your lender will play ball that is.

Not many places do unsecured loans for over that period of time anymore and if it was secured on the car, they'd probably only do it for 5 years because of the depreciation of the vehicle.
Have you asked the dealership if they can recommend anywhere?
Unfortunately, although interest rates are low, it isn't being reflected with loans and borrowing.

Don't forget that a secured loan (secured against property) will be cheaper than an unsecured loan. Also, there seems to be a magic figure over which the APR is slightly less. I think with my own bank (Lloyds TSB) that figure is £7,500. So in other words you would be likely to get a better rate on £7501, than on £7000 for instance. I've just had a look around a number of comparison sites and other lenders that immediately spring to mind and unfortunately it appears that Nationwide at 7.9% are the cheapest for straight personal loans. Obviously on the comparison sites I have tried I have only been using basic information so if you want to try adding more details you may just get lucky. So in no particular order, we have the following comparison sites... AOL (UK) MoneyU-SwitchMoneysupermarket.comYahoo UK FinanceOnlyFinance.comThe Daily Mail's This is Money site combines advice and comparisons as well as a members' forum. Moneysavingsexpert.com (of which I am a member) is mainly advice and also includes a members' forum. I'm afraid that's all I can think of. The other option is to ask the dealer (Marshalls?) what they can offer. It's all a bit cloak and dagger on their website www.marshallweb.co.uk/vauxhall/Ipswich/finance.asp but at least they do have an incentive to give you the best deal, so it would be well worth pursuing that line of enquiry first.

I watched a prog last night F-A where loan companies are charging over 10,000 APR - I thought was seeing things - they featured reputable loan companies that seemed very honest and upfront with the public I think it was on BBC 1 - The One Show - but check Watch Again or Catch Up and am sure you will be able to watch the programme again and it may help

Thank you for your suggestions. The dealership will only do finance over 5 years - we've already asked ! Unfortunately, we can't do it over that period because we just can't afford it.
I've had a look round and found that the AA will do them over 6 years, and at a competitive rate so I'm going to arrange it through them.

It's all sorted and provided the money arrives this week, we'll be picking it up on Saturday morning.
I was very unsure whether we were doing the right thing but a mate of mine is a car dealer and he reckons its a good car for the money and we should buy it so we've taken the plunge. All we've got to do now is pay for the bugger !
