The best ever fishing programme was "Go Fishing" with John Wilson. His favourite phrase was "ooh, that's a lovely fish" every time he caught one !
Anyone watching the Open ? Looks like it's going to be a tough day today. The weather is really going to sort them out !
I do wish the golfers would smile a bit more while they were playing (and the same goes for other professional sports men and women). They have life that 99.9% of us could only dream of, they earn vast sums of money from travelling round the world playing their chosen sport and yet they always look so bloody miserable. Monty is the worst of the lot. He should try working a 10 hour shift in a factory (something I've done in the past) or doing pretty much any other mundane job for crap wages and then maybe they would count their blessings and realise that they are extremely lucky to do what they do and they should do it with a smile on their face. I know I would !!

We're rooting for our local hero, Lee Westwood. Any British win would be delightful, and failing that it would be great to see young Tom Watson come through.
Fly fishing is great as a participant sport, but I grant you it probably isn't terribly exciting to watch

I've been watching the golf for most of the day save for a short foray outside this afternoon.
It's a tough choice but I would like to see Tom Watson get his sixth open title but failing that Lee Westwood or Ross Fisher.

On Thursday and Friday the BBC devoted BBC2 entirely to golf from 0900 straight through to the close of play, and very nice too even though I got virtually nothing else done. Yet, now the weekend is here and those people lucky enough (or otherwise) to have jobs to go to must either squint at the one quarter of the screen not occupied by the constantly refreshing scoreboard on the Red Button, or watch Gary Lineker and co droning on about nothing on BBC2 or instead watch MotoGP which, inconveniently, is on at the same time. Or you could email the BBC on golf@bbc.co.uk like I just did and ask them what they are playing at! i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/grin.gif

I've been watching the Tour de France - Bradley Wiggins did really well to come 5th in todays stage, and Lance Armstrong is not doing bad for a 37 year old ..

I'm absolutely gutted by the result of the Open. I watched for several hours this afternoon and I so desperately wanted anyone but bloody Cink to win it. I don't know why but I bloody hate the bloke !
Lee Westwood was looking good but blew it (again !) and poor old Tom Watson just ran out of steam. What a damn shame on both counts.

Yes it all turned into an anti-climax didn't it. Very disappointing in the end

I'm really looking forward to seeing Schumi drive a Ferrari again. Although it was a near disaster that precipitated his return, I really think it will generate some interest in F1 for the rest of the season.

Yes I'm looking forward to seeing Michael Schumacher racing again. I think it's a bit mean that they won't let him test for even one day, thanks to Red Bull/Williams' veto, but this is obviously because they perceive MS as a real threat. I wonder if we will be seeing this again on the afternoon of Sunday 23rd August? i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/wink.gif

Looks like we will have to be content with Luca Badoer. After the lord mayor's show etc. Yeah, I heard this at lunchtime. What a disappointment. I understand that Badoer has raced in 48 GP's, never having scored a point !! As you say Spru, after the Lord Mayor's show indeed FA x

Anyone else see the 100m final from Berlin last night ?
Usain Bolt was simply breathtaking. 9.58 seconds to run 100m. Unbelievable.
Also, pretty unbelievable was Tiger Woods blowing a 4 stroke lead at the halfway stage of a major championship. It's never happened before. Are we starting to see the first cracks appearing in his seemingly invincible golf game ?

Are they looking to be a better bet than Ipswich?? At the moment, there aren't many looking a worse bet than Ipswich are there !!! I'll probably settle for an 8-8 season from the Bengals this year. That would be 8 wins and 8 defeats. Last year we won 4, lost 11 and drew 1 so 8-8 would be an improvement. I clearly have a thing for lost causes....... ;D FA x

Bless!! I'll watch out for the Bengals this season. Do you have any connection with Cinncinnati (sp)? I like the Chicago Bears, but only because I always wanted to be a "Gangster's Moll" and they seemed to hang out in Chicago!! i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/grin.gif Looks like Col U have done good - at least Aidy Boothroyd is well known and a proven manager

No, I have no connection to "Cincy" (as I believe it's known). I first watched the NFL in the mid 80's and the first live game I saw was the Bengals vs the Pittsburgh Steelers (a local derby game with quite a rivalry between them). I decided that whoever won the game would be my team to follow and as the Bengals won, I chose thyem and have stuck with them ever since. However, as the Bengals have never won the Super Bowl and Pittsburgh have won it 6 times, maybe I should've followed them instead.........

Can't believe the shenanigins in Formula 1 at the moment. Were Renault really so desperate to win a race they would order a driver to crash so that their other driver would gain an advantage over the rest of the field ? I can't believe they would be so reckless with a persons life but they have announced that they are not going to contest the charges, which appears to be an admission of guilt. Unbelievable. Wouldn't it be nice if the chatter about F1 was actually about the racing for a change..... FA x

Not very 'sporting' is it! It gets more 'corrupt' year on year - what with 'blood' capsules in ruggers and issues with race fixing on the gee gees, match fixing in cricket and footie .. and then folk wonder why young people have no 'values' What a sad state of affairs we are in x Tig

I have to save that I am absolutely astonished at the FIA hearing's verdict on the Renault race-fixing allegations. How is it that McLaren were fined £50million and yet Renault have got off apparently scot free? Am I missing something here?

I don't know if I'll ever watch F1 again after the "punishment" handed out to Renault. I was absolutely disgusted by it, to be honest. FA x

I saw the result but I didn't even watch the re-run at 2 o'clock this afternoon. I'm still not sure I'll watch much F1 after the so-called punishment handed out to Renault. I still hope Jenson withs the title tho.... FA

Well having manfully crawled out of bed at 05:40 and watched a near two hour procession with only three drivers showing any interest in racing (Messrs Vettel, Trulli and Hamilton) I rather wished I had stayed in bed. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/wink.gif Button seems ok when he starts near the front but he just doesn't seem to have the drive/motivation to make it from the lower order starting positions where he is increasingly finding himself. The trouble is that we were spoilt for all those years by Michael Schumacher fighting his way to the front whatever his grid position. I also hope that Button gets the title but he is certainly making hard work of it at the moment.
